Wow, basically you just said that there was no art up to and during the Renaissance. Besides, "the very purpose of art" has been debated for centuries and no definitve answer has come up yet, so I doubt you can dismiss the issue in 4 rows. "Your deepest instinct as a creator -- your primal need -- will be to do X" is a constantly wrong statement, seeing as creators are not created equal. It reeks of arrogance on your part to believe you speak on the whole world's behalf.
But really, your gem: "Someone who is that focused on getting paid for their ideas obviously can't have anything of importance to say to humanity". Now I understand, the only problem is that hippies think they can speak with any authority about, oh, anything at all. Luckily nobody even considers your opinions.

Fine. We're all running NSAOS. Microsoft controls the kernel and all the software we run is actually running on top of a deception layer. Hey, it's technically possible and easier than wiretapping ISPs. Also, all routers have a specially crafted firmware that enables IE to punch through firewalls and whatnot.

The problem is that people on a mission tend to escalate this kind of stuff pretty quickly, to a governmental level if necessary, and the press is all too happy to report it because it makes for great polarizing. But I still believe that everyone should be free to put out whatever game they wish, and this includes me publishing Hello Kitty 40.000 (in the grim future of Hello Kitty there is only war) and they publishing this kind of game.
The gov't in my country is trying to censor games right now - a leftist gov't - and even though I won't play e.g. Rule of Rose because it must really suck, I still believe it must be let loose on the market.

Democracy is defined as "rule by the people": it has no other purpose or definition, expressed or implied. It is simply a form of government where all the people take part in the decision making process, as opposed to monarchy (rule by one), theocracy (rule by god('s representatives)), aristocracy (rule by the best ones) and other forms.
It is NOT related to what you actually DO with the power you are given or the way you choose to benefit some at the expense of others: it simply sets the basic rules of the discussion, while the outcome of such process can (and does) vary.
Besides, it looks to me like executing someone takes one (1) bullet, while maintaining him in prison costs a fortune. If you're really cheap you can even ask his family for reimbursement - hey the Chinese do it, even though I find it evil.
I will google execution costs but I suspect I will find info about how much it costs to maintain someone in prison for 15 years before you kill him, how expensive the machinery is, how you have to train people to use it and manage the audience...
Finally I never said that the govt should take care of the vengeance. It'd be a surefire way to mess even THAT up.

Everything else, though, is pure and simple theft, motivated by a perceived lack of victims and virtual impunity.
