SourceForge has definitely suffered since being picked up by Dice Holdings, and it is probably
an indication of what will happen to Slashdot over time.
So lets take a horrible desktop IDE and make it available online! Visual Studio is a laughing stock of IDE's, it's overly complex, over bloated, expensive, complicated to use and just an amature attempt at an IDE.
I'm a Visual Studio fanboy and mostly like the IDE for what it provides, but I agree with you that it's too bloated. The startup time and many of the operations are ridiculously slow. Goes to same bin with Ubuntu's Unity desktop in terms of performance.
I agree. He's a dickhead. Sure, it's Apple and they will sell millions of this thing anyway. But still, one has a bad work ethic if he goes revealing things like this. He should try to be a team player.
Why the metric measures all of a sudden? Oh right, larger numbers are more sensational.
I used them because they are SI units. Although, as has been pointed out, I seem to have botched the summary anyway by using the unit of km/h, but the value of mph. Sorry about that.
And at the end of the day, the quality assurance of desktop Linux is broken no matter what distro you use. You can find a bunch of small glitches from all of them.
To further illustrate the problem with review of trademark concerns at Ubuntu, several years ago I contacted their legal department with a request to be permitted to use the Ubuntu logo, alongside those of several other notable open source Linux and BSD distributions, for printing on the sails of small kites for sale at the cost of production. The objective was to create an opportunity for people to ask "hey, what's that logo represent" and engage youngsters in a discussion on open source operating systems.
How do you know that the kids would have asked "what does that logo represent?" Maybe they would have thought that it's the logo of your kite brand, or just some arbitrary pretty symbol printed on it.
Yep, you are correct. Some months ago I was able to set my UA simply to Internet Explorer 10 and got every video as HTML5. That trick seems to not work anymore though.
Also Chrome is the only choice on Linux if you want to have a up to date Flash plugin (you can also transfer that plugin into Chromium, although it's a PITA). The old NPAPI Flash plugin (version 11.2) still seems to linger in various distros though (package flashplugin-installer in Ubuntu).
Well, HTML5 video is already working quite well, and seems to have better hardware acceleration. Even YouTube could as well end the long-lasted HTML5 experiment and just go full HTML5.
On a sidenote, have you ever watched the videos on botflies on YouTube? It is some kind of tropical insect which lays eggs inside human or animal skin and the born maggots live inside the flesh eating it. Creepy yet interesting.
I couldn't find a way to enlarge the thumbnails. When I click them, the same set of thumbnails just open into some kind of "workspace" at the right side of the page.
Good point. Windows computers keep the free-to-tinker PC ecosystem alive which in turn allows setting up any kind of Linux installations that one wants.
How about BSD? BSDs have become mature enough that they are starting to look like a believable alternative to Linux. I wonder if more people from Linux will be moving to BSD in coming years.
You get to a download page and there are ads that scream things like "DOWNLOAD NOW", "CLICK HERE TO INSTALL", etc.
Hah, yes, I hate those. Generally I keep advertisements unblocked to help websites get the funding that they need. But that kind of ads are just confusing and annoying and makes me not want to view ads on that website anymore. A high-quality advertising syndicate shouldn't allow advertisements which mimic other parts of the website, like with "download now" or "you have 1 new message".
Well, I think the main point of the video was just show how all the modules come together inside the console. Looks like a very clean and nice design BTW.

Drama queen much?
I recommend InfoQ.

The next ice age is approaching!
There was actually recently a report which claims that the world is heading for a period of cooling that will not end until the middle of this century.
It's all the fault of Edward Snowden !
Edward Snowden would be a good name for some evil antagonist who creates heavy global cooling.
Very true. :D
A desktop which uses WebGL would be interesting.
javascript != java
But you can still ask the question whether JavaScript is faster than Java.
Maxtor disks were also famous for their unreliability.
Run the test longer and show us the data for span of 10 years. Additionally, reveal the brands and models of the disks. Thanks.
The one beer or glass of wine gives you the buzz too, that's why...
I do not think it means what you think it means.

Did you tell the legal team about including a pamphlet?

I defend Canonical because of the dream of providing one "de facto" Linux desktop (Unity) and thus more or less sorting out the Linux desktop mess.
