Can I program some ARM code ground-up using RaspPi? A simple "operating system" or make it some embedded gadget. Is it worth it and where should I begin?
How can we ever be sure that the server is actually honoring the Do Not Track request? Even if it was mandated by the law, I believe it's hard to monitor what's happening behind the scenes of some website.
Maybe you simply don't need more speed and thus don't get excited about tuning performance? I haven't lately found much of use for anything improved than a basic Core 2 Duo.
Ok, maybe those guys saved some money, hooray and cheers, but shouldn't we generally support all browsers to keep a healthy competition active? Until we at some point reach a state when we can just write to the spec...
I every now and then see a bug (or maybe it's my score settings?) where I can see a comment, but its child is missing, and then immediately after comes the grandchild comment (with proper two levels of indentation). So a comment disappears in between. This with all browsers.
And if immortality was achieved, would people start to be super careful about not dying for "non-natural causes"? I mean, wouldn't it suck to have lived 1000 years and then die in a car accident. Unless the immortality would somehow cover those cases too.
But he has a point. That's already a lot better than everything made in China (if that's our goal here). And if you can do the case assembly, CPU and RAM in well-paying countries, probably some of those buttons and LEDs can be made there too - and the whole package still being relatively affordable.
You are saying we shouldn't use it? Really? Your basis for that argument is that we can't use it all the time. This means we should never use it? I feel I must politely disagree with you there. Would you advise farmers not to grow seasonal vegetables because they cant grow them in winter? Would you advise people in a desert not to collect rainwater because it doesn't fall much in the desert? Would you advise me not to socialise with my friends because sometimes they have to work?
Hehehe, well said! I wanted to make a sidenote on that, I often see in Slashdot some technology being stomped down for it not being completely perfect in every aspect. For cripessakes people, it doesn't mean it's all unusable!
I am also enjoying QT Creator. Easy to use, fast, lots of good examples, nice documentation, includes a visual GUI designer too. I'm a C guy who's just cutting his teeth in C++ and graphical applications, so it's also a learning tool for me. I had VS2010 (from DreamSpark) for a while but it felt a bit overly complex and, I'm not sure if the Windows GUI with all it's legacy cruft is a good way to go anyway (CMIIW).
FTA:
A lot of people interested in free software, and user autonomy and network services are very worried about Facebook.
How is free software related to this topic?
If you squint your eyes, the E3 logo in the /. summary looks like Bart Simpson.
Ah, so "Make your own secure file repository, joining the file server"? Just kidding...
You still shouldn't store them like that.
Some African kid should set up libc.so.

Quite good game.

I get fiber to the basement (which is then routed into the apartments as VDSL2 connections over the good old copper).
Part of the cost being included in the house maintenance charge, that gives me a 12/12Mbit connection for 10€/month, Finland.
Spoken with the voice of Homer Simpson.

I have sometimes thought whether games that show some information during loading will run on future CPUs too fast for it to be observed.
Is the battery busted?
Smart choice! My water usage also dropped tremendously when I started to buy a new set of dishes instead of washing them.
cheap-ass Optiarc DVD burner (don't get one, seriously)
Optiarc is a coalition of Sony and NEC and is generally a high-quality brand.
Agreed!
Actually, I was talking about a separate issue when I replied.

Then by all logic, ain't you in part fault for that by leaving?

Good one.
