Indeed. It saddens me that so many people watch the show, and then consider them to be master scientists. They have succeeded in dumbing down science and engineering enough for the average Phil and Sally to understand. Of course, then your average Phil and Sally understand nothing, yet think they are masters in such fields.

You know somebody is full of shit when they argue that, "Well, Mythbusters couldn't do it so it can't be done!" The complete lack of peer review in their show is sickening.

And I believe that the other was an actor. I would imagine that their other minions were also actors and actresses before coming onto the show. Do they have any real experience and credentials that would suggest they are worthy of critiquing the work of people from MIT?

But then you proceed to launch ad hominem attacks. Barry, ad hominem attacks are what ruin true discussion and debate! I understand what they are, why they should be avoided, and how to avoid them. So the problem falls squarely on your shoulders at this point. The second rule is that we debate with the truth, and with hard facts. Ad hominem attacks are not facts of any sort, for instance.

It's about SCO trying to improve their products by including better support for MySQL. Now, you can throw in all the conspiracy theories that you want, or point out their hypocrisy with regards to using open source software. That doesn't change the fact that they do sell and work on UNIX products. That alone does make them a UNIX vendor.

When looking at the long term effects in this situation, you have to remember what the situation actually is. If they don't do this, for instance, then there's a very good chance that an epidemic may arise, and they would not be prepared to deal with it. Even if it doesn't result in mass death, the economy would still be in shambles. And if it does, then the corporate economy will be the last thing on peoples' minds.

So it's pointless to focus so completely on the future economy, especially if that future economy is going to be destroyed or radically changed, as would happen in a pandemic situation. This isn't a situation of helping a few people who got AIDS because they had unprotected anal sex. This is a situation where the lifeblood of the economy itself, the labour, will be devastated. And without a labour force, an economy is nothing.
