Electric engines have high torque at low RPMs, which matches nicely with gasoline engines. This is not the case with diesel engines.

I'm not saying this DoS attack is justified. However, one cannot deny that many of the CNN reports were either falsified or out of context.
But if you double the current don't you quadruple the power? P = I^2 * R

No, it is acctually a common type of typo known as a "mirror typo". You will notice that "e" and "i" are on the opposite side of the keyboard.
