As if musical taste is some sort of national thing. It's like assuming that since 50.000001% of americans voted for George W. Bush every single person living in the country adores and supports him.
Every country has loads of great music.
However, Avril Lavigne, Sarah McLachlin, Sum 41, and Barenaked Ladies don't make any of canada's good music.
I could not care less about 99.9% of the music available. But the fact that there is just absolutely loads of good music available in all genres and all prices and in undiscovered back catalogs suits me just fine.
The idea from FOSS people that somehow I should or should not pay this or that for a concert/show or this or that for a prerecorded version of music is just laughable and also annoying
The times I've read EULAs have been related to finding out if I am allowed to install a second copy on a laptop (which sometimes you can) or sell my copy of the software (which sometimes you can)
I've never come across any *real* gotchas, obviously they can do whatever they want to the software or really anything at all - everything works fine so no complaints from "userland"
Lumpy's post is the most spectactular thing I have ever read in my life. I think tears of joy may have welled up in his eye during its composition - I know I shed them while reading it.
That said, I could see Mac take real market share in the home market and get momentum.
It shouldn't matter for business, because business should be able to manage their windows machines fine (as seems to be done at my big little CPA firm, I'm not on the IT side, but from my end (the revenue generating end) windows works fine and our key software only runs on it anyway.
But, I am recommending apple's to everyone who asks my opinion on a home machine though, and even suggesting macbook pros for my partners who frequently choose to screw up their machines with poorly made applications.
"we don't expect to make money from our recordings"
so you are basically arguing for a model where all pre-recorded music (or any media for that matter) merely exists for the promotion of the live event?
I downloaded my free copy of the big lebowski, and I loved it so much I'm going to go watch.. lebowski on ice
And I'm the buggy-whip person here?
incidently, I don't imagine that you actually are in a blue band for a living, so just because you "create content" doesn't mean your view has as much weight and authority here.
My experience is that artists who *rely* on their art to have food and rainment, don't live in the same lame hippy, commune that you do.

What religions are fighting?
Hey you should write for Wired.
whether you agree with parent or not, mod up as insightful
Imagine your mac running Windows and your ipod running windows ce
"I've never even hit a limitation with it, and I forget it's there. It's the most liberal DRM in existence."
Call back when you decide that you'd like a non-apple media player.
The selection is much, much better now and they use to only encode at 128K, but now encode with LAME VBR at about ~192K
I love emusic.
Well I just put in 5 different groups that I wanted to listen to and they don't even have them. Also, they seem to be overloaded at the moment.
This post is overrated. This guy has said the same thing before, and the replies are underrated.
But I guess he is giving the people what they want.
Who's running Windows anyway? Seriously folks, I've got everything I need on Linux, thank you.

hey moderators just because someone offers an opposing view, does not make it flamebait

So you do what you want, but realize that many many music fans are very content. But here's a little tip, if you are having trouble finding something you like, check out WFMU Broadcasting out of Newbridge NJ or Streaming Live on the Internet
I personally love Cherry Blossom Clinic with Terre T and if you were cool like me, you would too.

if you are a CPA for individuals who make less than 2mm per year this software is indispensable - you wont find an equivalent on any other platform.
What about the fact that you're taking something that isn't yours (it's like I am talking with my 2 year old)

What's the basis for your thinking?
OK you've given us the "reality check" I am wondering if you personally think that stealing Windows is a morally correct thing to do?
Also, it has been my experience that people who try and demonstate that "everybody" is doing something usually are part of that "everybody."
So it's OK if a company wants to provide what I would define as obscene or offensive entertainment but it it's not OK if a company doesn't?
Come on, just stop pirating and all of this would be a non-issue.
From an acquaintance of mine who actually creates entertainment for a living:
"I've also got too many friends dedicating their lives to creating art, struggling to get stay afloat, so Im gonna take this a little personally."
I would hope to go down as the person who got over it and not the person who was broken by the "tragedy"
We expect a lot more from people than this
This is like puting a yugo engine in a porsche!
"No one is going to buy a Mac now to run Windows on it."
I might be buying a Mac to run windows.
Where do I sign up for the free copies of OS X?
