Why dont they give interesting information about how useful it is for kids in africa that have never used technology that can't read? Wait... all African technology can read?
Depressingly, what I conclude from this is that the only real answer is to pay people and have competition. Payment offers rewards to people who do not care about power or exclusivity.
Except that it dosn't, people being paid can still care a great deal about power and exclusivity. It's assumed one would eschew the power/exclusivity perks to make the commercial model work.
>2) What was the Army going to do if they didn't? Suddenly save the plane to avoid any lawsuits?
Did you not read the sentence directly after the one you've quoted?
> They were actually unwitting participants in an experiment: the plane was not crippled at all.
There was never any intention to crash the aircraft
Are you thick? From the soliders' perspectives, there was no reason to comply. (I.e., there seemed to be no negative consequences for NOT filling out the forms. Excuse the double negative.) Which is exactly what the OP was pointing out.

PAX 2007 In A Nutshell

This is a great send-up of CAD. But PA? There might be a lot of valid criticisms for PA, but the art isn't one of them. It's not repetitive or ripped from Google Images searches.
Voyager 1 is now about 14.4 light hours away. (That's ~0.0016 light years.)
At this rate, Voyager 1 will have traveled a whole 1 ly by the year 20150 AD (give or take a few decades; and, yeah, that's supposed to be five digits).
Sorta, but as I understand it this "RAM" is is more like clockwork. So if you somehow froze it in place you might be able to start it up again later (as opposed to the more conventional memory stick that loses its data forever when the power's cut).
It's really that hard to draw a line between individual and corporate sponsorship?
Yes, it is. Most people work for a company. And when they publicly support someone or something, most people will take that as some kind of tacit endorsement from that person's employer as well unless the company intentionally distances itself (in which case it's seen as veiled disapproval). Doesn't matter if you're just a clerk or janitor, but they're not the ones making big campaign contributions and taking out ads for candidates.
Wow, talk about condescending. I was just wondering why the headline was wordier than it needed to be.
Also, this: "...it's a descriptive term regarding the feeling of crowdedness, not some ephemeral measurement of the space inbetween circuits." Is bullshit. "Feeling of crowdedness" *is* an "ephemeral measurement."
Did you write the headline? Because I'm having a hard time understanding why you'd lash out at someone over such an insignificant question.
Why don't you just de-prioritize eating fatty foods (or eating less in general)? No need to de-prioritize work and social time. I think PCM2 makes an extremely good point. Just because the solution to something is uncomplicated doesn't mean it's easy (which is how your comment reads).
"But in all likelihood there are many, if not millions of alien civilizations out there"
"In all likelihood..." -- What's the basis for this? How do you know what's most probable?
You're criticizing his assumptions, but your statement is also complete conjecture. There's absolutely no evidence one way or the other to suggest how many alien civilizations there are (if any at all).
It is pretty obvious that electronic voting requires both anonymity (to remove fear of retributions) and accountability (to remove fraud).
If we can do this reliably with bitcoin then there must be a way to implement this, right?
It's assumed one would eschew the power/exclusivity perks to make the commercial model work.
Hey, Titan has lots of hydrocarbons.
> Many of our troops were visibly upset and shaking after the "death" of a bomb-detonating robot
Oh, bullshit.
I'll see what I can do.

Boy, if they ever figure out how to post on Slashdot you're going to get a real earful...
You go around yelling "Don't you know who I am?!" a lot, don't you?
You seem to be making the assumption that the vast majority of /.ers think this could never happen here.

Yes, yes, obligatory car analogy, etc.

What does gay sap have to do with any of this?
If I remember correctly, a Bouncing Betty Fireball.
It took you five days to come up with that?
And running out of HD-DVRs is the least of it. My local (Pullman, WA) Time Warner cable service actually refuses to carry the FOX network. Seriously.

Why not just say "densest"?

better version of this complaint
Well, the US does have extradition treaties with over 100 countries... that's something.
