You forgot to mention that it is a major component of acid rain, can be lethal if inhaled, and that studies have shown that more than 95% of all cancer victims have ingested significant quantities of it before being diagnosed.
And what you forgot is that 100% of people that inhale significant quantities of H2O drown.
Hey douche bag, in case you can't tell, I am saying that noone is 100% wrong all the time. Linux, Microsoft, they both have bugs to be delt with. I think Linux deals with them better than MS, but MS does deal with the problems that crop up.
Well no offense, but do you know what makes up a shotgun shell? That's right....say it with me....dozens of BB pellets.
That is the standard shell, now if you are talking shotgun slugs, well OK then. But, some good old fashioned duck hunting/phesent hunting shells contain lots and lots of small BB's.
Stop turning the damn machine on and off. Turn it off, stick it in the closet, and you won't have to worry about it failing, unless the bowling ball falls off the top shelf and lands on it.
Seriously, what I'd like to know is....does anyone who posts actually READ the previous posts? How many times is the same suggestion (RAID/Removable HD/OnStream/rsync) going to be repeated as if NOONE has suggested it yet?
Is it me? There is no simple, cookie-cutter way to backup that much data that is cheap/easy/idiot-proof. There are alot of good suggestions on this topic, but YOU are going to have to decide which will work for you. You are gonna have to comprimise on something, only you will know what is acceptable.
This is SO dangerous. RAID systems must be setup to e-mail an admin, jump up and down and scream when they loose a volume. Imagine the HDD actually failed, and you missed the lines in your syslog (or worse still, didn't read your syslog). Two weeks later a second drive goes. All of a sudden you have no data left.
I've seen this so many times on 'set and forget' windows instalations.
Easy, it's called Hot Spare.....say it with me, Hot Spare....see, I knew you could.
If you'd grown up on it, or come from another Unix-alike (such as OpenBSD, etc), you'd probably find Slackware quite friendly... most Slackware-heads would find Red Hat or even Debian restrictive and unfriendly
I agree, while I am a sucker for fancy schmanzie gui's, slackware was what I first learned about Linux on, and I find it more easy to keep track of what's being installed than red hat or debian. Barebones? Yes! */pussymode_on/* But, you always have something in your heard for your first.*/pussymode_off/*

MS DOS: A Eulogy

Well, I know one thing......Civ I still runs in DOS on my W2K box. Now, if I could only get my hands on Civ III out today, that would be sweet.
I don't see any mention of that revolutionary MS Bob system that was going to make life worth living. Am i the only one who remembers when Egghead had stores, this was a featured software of hte week thingie in one of their fliers. I remember saying to the wife, that it was a stinker. I think the assistant was Bill himself if I remember correctly.
You forgot to add that the video tape itself will only last between 10 to 15 years before they start to deteriorate. At least thats what a TV engineer told me once. Something to do with the binder used to keep the metal particles on the tape breaking down and the magnetic particles flaking off.
If you want more info, I will grab the e-mail from him and post as a followup
Well, if the're dead (electric chair), then I doubt they can do anything again, legal or otherwise.
Hardcore? Yes, it is. When we quit trating criminals like they are misguided people and start treating them like the fucking scum they are, then we'll all be alot better off.
quoted Scott Bakula as saying: "It's Star Trek, but with explosions."
So what you're telling me is, that Face, is going to go galavanting around the Universe, saving good "people" from bad "people" with lots of explosions? Hmmm.....next you're going to tell me the Enterprise is shaped like a Dodge van with mag wheels, and they are going to have a black man with lots of jewelry and a bad attitude.
I know I did not make a profit or break even, but, given how these items loose value with time as they get older and replaced with new technology, any money is better than no money.
Exactly, usually buying something like computer equipment is like throwing money down the rat hole, (you never expect to see it back, just get usage out of the equipment, and hopefully generate money from that endevor). However, Ebay has been my fishing pole to retrieve some of that money. If you buy a box for $1500, then 3 years later, part out some of it for $400, keep some to use as a base for upgrading, you essentially got a computer for 3 years for $1100. (keeping in mind, 3 years ago, 1500 wasn't that bad a deal....)
Ah yes, but if you sell it for two hundered, you can keep all two hundred. And, if you plow that two hundred back into new equipment, no tax penalty (up to 18K a year I beleive).
Sell 'em! Good God man, tax deduction? Much more problems that it's worth. Keep in mind that you can only write off a percentage of the total value. Hardly worth the effort if you ask me. IF you feel benevolent, then just give them to the local charity or whatever.
Otherwise, sell them to some geek on Ebay, charge a fair price and people will pay you to ship to them.
Well, I would say then that they did NOT inhale significant enough quantities of H20. I guess it's how you define significant ;-)
And what you forgot is that 100% of people that inhale significant quantities of H2O drown.
Now how the fuck can someone mod this as redudant when this is the first fucking post?
BTW, yes, star trek 4 when they were trying to bring the whales back (no, not those big jumbo momma's at the salad bar) to the 23rd century.
Dude, if I had mod points, you'd be +5, Fucking Brilliant!
And as for all the rest of you fucking peace hippies, blow it out your ass.
In other words, kill the intruder. Same goes for enemies in war.....fuck em. Kill them all, let God sort it out.

I wouldn't shit my pants just yet, remember, a stopped clock is right twice a day.
You'll take a dremel to modify your HD and yet you'll change the channel when this guy is on.
I don't get it.
That is the standard shell, now if you are talking shotgun slugs, well OK then. But, some good old fashioned duck hunting/phesent hunting shells contain lots and lots of small BB's.
The next virus that Benny guy should write is one that infects NAV.exe and renames his virus back to what he had originally.
PR Geek: "I know, let's rename the virus so we don't piss MS off, that's the ticket!"

Good Luck!

Why not just do what the BOFH would do, direct backup to /dev/null? Much faster and no changing HD's/floppies/RAID drives/tapes/sheets of paper.
Just remember, if it's got electronic parts, or tits, it's gonna give you problems eventually.

"Hello, is Dave there?"
Dave's not here!
No man, it's me...Dave...I got the stuff
Dave?
Yeah..Dave!
Dave's not here!
They want the best! If the best are given the choice of being locked up, or serving Uncle Sam, they're not going to take much convincing
Kinda like La Femm Nakita?
OOps,
Well, they look alike.....what can I say
