He clearly makes a sound argument, so I'm not sure why anyone would be confused by what he said, which is largely very unambiguous.
What I will say is, his opinions / observations don't always hold true.
Sure any qualified specification is a conglomeration of best practices and the knowledge of how to do something the right way through hard-learned experience?
I certainly don't go and throw an idea into any of my specifications without being sure of its validity beforehand...
Well over here in England, it's quite a lot cheaper to buy music from iTunes than it is to buy from the high street.
The greed of the music labels really does know no bounds.
It's just pure greed that they want a slice of iPod sales.
These people are just parasites feeding off the very entity that saved their collective margins from a razor-thin oblivion.
Will they ever learn? Of course not.
I don't see any other alternative than for piracy to rise again and their sales to fall for them to realize the error of their ways. But with their totally blinkered attitude, all that they would do is put on yet more spin on the economics and blame some other nameless / faceless force for their own idiocy...
I've played Burnout 3 and have really enjoyed it. But what I will say is, there's something weird about the 2 player game.
As player 2, you nearly always start behind player 1. With this in mind, you usually can't get in front of player 1 and as player 2, you end up dodging all of the wreckage that player 1 kicks up and hardly ever get any of the booster / nitro thing.
My nephew didn't believe me until we swapped over for a while and player two gets hammered nearly every time.
The other major annoyance is when you're trying ram some car into the sides, they just grind & crunch for an age without being killed.
This happens no matter the weight of the car. If you're player 2.. you get this a lot.
And the longer this goes on, the more likely you are to get other cars coming in for a multi-duel, which usually ends up with player 2 getting killed.
I hope they've got this lot sorted because it's just insane...
Believe me, I do not doubt you.
In fact, such is my conviction that you're right about gettin' all organized 'n' stuff, I'm working on something for the roll-neck-wearing, beatnik types (yes, that includes me, I suppose) to help them get organized.
So I suppose Outlook is something that interests me in a way...
Then I bow to your better knowledge.
Although I have a number of clients who do indeed 'live' out of Microsoft Outlook, I've never had to fiddle & faff around with it, myself.
I'm the creative dude.. they don't let me near that kind of stuff. I'm the edge developer, you know the sort...
Just a thought, but would / could some of the blame fall at Apples feet?
I mean, Mail is a decent enough mail client, now. And I did read that Apple had been working on Exchange-enabling Mail but never got around to it...
I was trying out an extended demo version of Zend Professional Studio 4 for a while, but for all of the nice features -- of which there were many -- the product as a whole was just doin' mi 'ead in...
There's nothing like providing sound advice like some authoritarian Victorian dad, is there?
As an aside, I rarely -- if ever -- commit ideas to paper. I architect in my head. I tend not to loose synapses quite as often as sheets of brilliant white A4.
So the pencils thing is really a personal preference, not a given.
There's a lot to be said for being conformable when you're working...
"They are forming plans to simulcast the television channels BBC1 and BBC2 on the web, as well as allowing users (only in the UK to start with, unfortunately)..."
Once people outside Britain start paying towards the license fee, then and only then would I be happy for foreigners to see BBC content...
I think I've got to agree with you on this.
Just look at the amount of software Apple have been churning out recently.
The numbers are verging on being disproportionate to the size of the platform.
And are there still people who think Apple aren't out to capture market share?
Then why the hell are Apple building so many Apple Stores all over the world?
For me, Apple are building up a suite of applications, building the international infrastructure and making the necessary changes [OS X on Intel] to move forward with the next phase of their master plan: conquer the world in 3 easy steps!
Well, something like that, anyway...

A Decade of PHP

· Score: 1
For me, PHP saved my business.
I've recently started developing applications that make solid use of the Pear and Smarty libraries, as well as class-based object-oriented principles.
This past week I've started using the GD.lib for building images on the fly.
There's not much that PHP can't do...
If you like Spotlight, then you'll love LaunchBar
I've got Tiger installed on my iBook, but I've changed the keyboard shortcut to keep LaunchBar as the default.
If like me, you've been using LaunchBar for a couple of years, Spotlight is a bit of a me-too yawn-fest.
It's just not that special...

I'm the exact opposite. I have zero need for web mail, I live out of my mail client...
No, I must correct you, Gappa, the Triphibian Monster is the worst film ever made...
Well I haven't been using a proper database for years, then. How bad is that?
Me too.

I bet you have hairy palms, don't you? ;-)

I thought someone had already done this kind of thing with direct X-rays on cloud cover?

The whole metaphor is changing.
Even the most computer illiterate [i.e.: my dad] know about Google.
One of the first things you do as a new computer user is search for something.
So now the omnipresent search field is the new metaphor...
