DL speeds are much faster now, and there is a ton of content. I have noticed no DRM (having no trouble playing anything downloaded with Xine). However, the last release had a slight issue where it decided to stop working on loads of linux systems, which thankfully the current version doesn't exactly have (at least so far).

There was a specific emphasis on pork being good overall.

I would be willing to bet that this is actually a sign that at this point, if you make it clear you will fight, the RIAA will try to back down and save as much face as possible as opposed to going through having another botch on their end show up all over the web and on newspapers nationwide.

No, "spinning" words, in this case, would be taking a comment out of context by ignoring some other part of the statement that wholly changes the meaning. In this case, there isn't anything that would change what that would mean in what they have said, and looking at a literal interpretation of the words meaning, which is what you are doing, is spinning it. Now, whether everyone out there is correct, or you are, as to what was meant by the statement doesn't change the fact that your statement, at this point, is spin. There is no other reason for that statement other than to indicate that the 60 gigabyte model will not be sold in the US. Hence, the widespread belief that they are going to be discontinuing the model in the US.

  10. Re:Vista needs the space on Turns Out Ubuntu Dell Costs $225 More · · Score: 1

I am an Ubuntu user, and here are my replies to your questions.

    -Never heard of that issue

-It isn't. The installed application for listening to music is Banshee (and it is what pops up when you try to play music files by selecting one and clicking on it, too)

-Sounds like a codec issue, but if it is a problem with the player, try some of the alternatives, or at least installing the version of Totem (the movie player) that uses Xine. Players that could be recommended include VLC and Mplayer.

-If you are using the built in compositing, then it is an issue with an option. There are a number of configuration utilities for compiz, and it sounds like you used one and it defaulted to only showing one workspace.

-The add/remove software interface is pretty much the same across all the different Ubuntu derivatives, so a user of KDE could download Totem if they so desired. It shows up because it won't necessarily always tell you to run synaptic. I purged fspot (DIE!) from my system, however, if I wanted to reinstall it, I would only have to click on add/remove software and click the appropriate checkbox.

-The popup is supposed to be annoying. Any update popup for an OPERATING SYSTEM should be damn annoying. That way, the user knows that they need to update their operating system. Insofar as the transparancy issue goes, I am not sure, but I don't think that even Vista's popup is transparant. Nor should it be, because it should immediately grab your attention and make you actually do something.

-Ok, that one happens, I think it is just an issue with nautilus. Fixable, if it is somehow a dealbraker for you, by using a different desktop environment (KDE, Fluxbox, etc...) which is only one click away in synaptic.

-Crappy client, which is more than is included with Windows (which happens to have no built in bittorrent support). Try Azureas or Bittornado.

-Then remove the applet from the panel. If you right click on it, you will see an option to "remove from panel."

    -Desktop icons can be resized.

Oh, can I ask, what operating system(s) are you coming from? Oh, and please, bring on list number 2.

This isn't looking under the hood. Looking under the hood would be checking what software was installed or pulling part of the case off to look at the internal components. This is more akin to going through the glovebox, middle storage compartment, and any bags that happen to be in the car. The only difference is that it is relatively easy to remove things from the car; from the computer, it is costly (cost of external hard drive or possibly thumbstick, I would be willing to bet hard drive though because a lot of families these days have several gigs or more of media data and files) and a pain to do so, at least for most people. Moreover, the guy at the autoshop is probably going to just take money or electronics. This is basically taking personal information or information that could be used to identify these people a at a later date, by someone who has absolutely NO need to do so.

Well, even if you do publish an article, there are still several issues. First, the user has to know how to. This necessitates that either someone show them how to use a piece of software (including what the terms used in the software mean) or just show them what button to click to make it magically happen. You want to teach the user. However, the second one which you probably wouldn't be addressing is the second thing that has to happen. That is, the user has to feel that it is a good use of their time and that the convenience of non-drm'd files and the saved money is better than paying the $0.99 to whatever the rate is. That there is the hangup with most people. They don't encounter DRM (or if they do, they just knuckle-under and rebuy the song) and thus have no objections to it, and they believe that their time is more valuably spent (because nobody wants to miss that new episode of King of Queens).
