  1. The result? on Another 150,000 Years of CO2 Data · · Score: 0, Troll

The result of The Threat of Global Warming(TM) is that it will be used as an excuse to implement everyone's pet project, no matter what it is. No matter how inapplicable.

Just you wait. Bush will declare that we must invade Iran to stem The Threat of Global Warming. It will just be another excuse to create and enforce draconian changes, but the actual handling of the problem will never happen...

Why not compare it to something more realistic, like water, power, phone. If I decide to use 100 times as much power as my neithbors, should I whine and complain because the power company wants to bill me more? Is it "fair" to my neighbors that they get brownouts because I kick off my new superpower light system? I don't get it. Pay more because you use more is... unfair? Milt

  3. From Quicken to GnuCash on When Will OSS Financial Apps Catch Up? · · Score: 1

I used Quicken for many years. It's a good product. I paid bills and handled bank transactions via Quicken and that worked well. I even ran Quicken on Linux via Crossover Office without problems.

I quit using Quicken because they started forcing me to upgrade each year. No technical reason to require the upgrade. Their "upgrades" are cosmetic--to generate income and serve no other purpose.

I was quite satisfied with all the basic features and functions of the earlier Quicken. The "upgrades" were useless to me. I don't mind paying for something I want, but I refuse to give Intuit the power to force me to buy their useless upgrades

Went with GnuCash. It is missing features I'd like, but I have control over my software and finances, so it's well worth it.

  4. Missing data on Florida Voting Machine Logs Reveal Anomalies · · Score: 1

I've read TFA but didn't see the conspiracy information. If this were a republican plot, then all of the suspicious votes would have been for Bush. The report doesn't say who the erroneous votes were for. That information would prove conspiracy or not. That's key information that wasn't in the report.

However, conspiracy aside, even if all those errors were "just" computer errors that still tends to invalidate Sequoia's machines and the election results that relied on them.

  5. Re:Demonizing CEO Whiteacre? on Flushing the Net Down the Tubes · · Score: 1

No, Whiteacre's arguments are not framed correctly. We, the ISP's customers already pay for access. That service is already fully paid for. The question to Whiteacre, or any ISP is: What ISP services, then, are being provided for free?

The answer, of course, is none. The ISPs provide a service, get paid for it and are making a nice profit.

If they charge Yahoo, Google, etc. they are getting paid twice for the same service. Right now, no one is getting "cheated", especially not the ISPs. If the ISPs can pull this off, it is their customers (who ultimately will pay for all charges, either directly or indirectly) who get the shaft.

  7. Re:yellow, blue and magenta? on Testing Cheaper Printer Ink · · Score: 1

OK, let's get really anal. RGB are the primary colors of light. CMY are the primary colors of pigment (ie ink). This is why, when you were a kid when you mixed "red" and "yellow" you got a brownish orange -- red is not a primary color and is not pure.

My point is, green and blue pigments are NOT primary colors. If you "mix green and blue", you will NOT get cyan, you will get mud.
