It's not redundant - it makes a reference to Snakes on a Plane, but also to Ruby on Rails. Yeah, I know this has been mentioned earlier in the discussion, so I suppose that makes this post redundant.
The MP3 decoding software is free software, it's just that there are patents that make distribution illegal in the US - same with libdvdcss, ffmpeg, etc. Anyway, even if they weren't free software - the point I'm making is that while the point of Ubuntu is to be free software, the point of Dell isn't to be free software. So what I was suggesting is that Dell include MP3, etc by default, and not Ubuntu.
But you do appear to be correct - I read up more about the Fluendo plugin for Gstreamer that I referred to, and there does appear to be something in the GPL that complicated the issue - to fix it, every GPL program that links to Gstreamer would basically have to include an exception clause.

Sorry, I think I've misunderstood what you were saying completely. I don't know if you're even using feisty or Ubuntu at all then... right, well, no, the wireless support won't work unless you have an Internet connection to install the firmware with. I had this problem myself - I solved it by downloading this package and putting it onto a USB stick and then installing it. Once I'd done that (and rebooted) I was able to connect to wireless networks. I've only tested this with feisty, and NetworkManager (which comes with feisty) makes this stuff a lot easier, so I don't know what the experience is like with previous versions. Also, NetworkManager/bcm43xx/WPA don't work particularly well together, but it's fine for WEP and unencrypted networks.
Heh, sorry about that then. Yeah, it's the version number of the kernel. I don't know if you have the 2.6.20-6 version of the kernel installed - you should have it installed if you had Herd 3. To check, run this command:
ls/boot | grep 2.6.20-6
If you have it installed, it should output something like this:
abi-2.6.20-6-powerpc config-2.6.20-6-powerpc ini trd.img-2.6.20-6-powerpc initrd.img-2.6.20-6-powe rpc.bak System.map-2.6.20-6-powerpc vmlinux-2.6. 20-6-powerpc
If you don't have it installed, install it with this command:
Be careful with these commands, make sure you follow them exactly, if you don't, you could mess things up pretty badly. Once you've got all this done, this should allow you to boot into the old kernel when you turn on your iBook - y'know when it asks do you want to run from a CD or Linux? You press "l" as usual there - but in the next prompt, you'd usually hit return, right? Well, don't do that. Instead, type "old", and then press return. This'll boot into the old kernel, which has working wireless drivers. (I presume you already have the firmware for those drivers installed, if not, well then install the bcm43xx-fwcutter package. I can't remember if that's in the Ubuntu repos or not - if it isn't then Google around for a.deb). Hope that helps.
Yeah, they broke the Broadcom drivers in 2.6.20-8 (they work in 2.6.20-6). They're supposedly fixed in 2.6.20-9, but that doesn't work for me (I'm on an iBook too) because of this bug. Just boot into 2.6.20-6 and you'll be grand, they'll sort this out soon - there's already been a fix committed.
Hmmmm, I like the idea behind the site, but I'm not sure about the site itself. I mean, I had a look at it and I just got the impression that it was trying too hard to be anti-Microsoft. The "Get the facts" thing just links to a bunch of articles criticising Microsoft and/or Microsoft products. Now, I'm sure these criticisms are perfectly valid, but I think if this site wants Microsoft's co-operation, then putting a list of links criticising their products on the main page, and calling it "Get the facts" is not the right way of going about doing that.
Not only that, but w...h........oe....v.e...r@gmail.com is also an address. You can have a practically infinite number of addresses with Gmail, because Google parses out all the dots, and you can use either "gmail" or "googlemail" as the domain. This can be useful for creating multiple accounts on a website ("Email address already taken") or whatever. Most sites don't cop on that they're the same address.
Yes, that's certainly true, but I think Bathory were black metal, far more so than bands like Celtic Frost, Mercyful Fate, Venom, etc. The debut was arguably thrash, but "Under The Sign Of The Black Mark" and "The Return Of Darkness And Evil" are definitely black metal albums.
It is quite easy to download videos from YouTube actually, here. They're in FLV though, so it's not that easy to play, but the new VLC plays FLVs fine as far as I know.
Godwin's Law?
My watch goes up to eleven!
I can't remember, something like Insightful though. It was a good comment.
Sorry, I modded this underrated by accident, posting to undo it.
Oops I modded this over-rated by accident; posting to undo it. Someone mod this funny.
TFA isn't so much about the actual merger, it's about the guy's comments on the merger.
Site's back up.

What's top stop them offering MP3 out-of-the-box? They could do some deal with Fluendo or something.
...and configure my keyboard shortcuts from a GUI. Isn't that whhat gnome-keybinding-properties is for?Sorry, I think I've misunderstood what you were saying completely. I agree, and a site like this is never going to get the co-operation of Microsoft it's asking for.

With regard to the Noveau thing, there's a pledge to help fund the Noveau project.

All major browsers? So including IE? IE doesn't even support PNG properly yet, god knows when it'll support something like MNG (if ever).
No, we're not destroying water. When we burn the hydrogen, the end result is water.
