The piracy here is so bad that I can buy a DVD with Vista and Office 2007 right here in my university (MEPhI). The irony is that Microsoft opened a research center in MEPhI and
    1) every time Microsoft guys go to work they see pirated CDs but don't do anything
    2) people here could get a legal copy of Vista for free through msdnaa but paying $3 for a non-genuine DVD with Windows AND Office is much easier
So MS tries to show Russia that if you pirate software, you may end up in jail. Banks and big companies probably buy Dells and HPs (with Windows pre-installed) so they want smaller organizations and ordinary people to fear piracy.

About eight years ago I knew nothing about computing except how to install a new game. But I wanted to experiment, so I installed OS/2 (pirated), then Linux. Of course I borked my whole system several times but since there was nothing valuable it was a Good Thing because I learned a lot. Oh, and after a Windows-basher-zealot spends the whole weekend configuring Xorg he'll probably be a little less biased against Windows.
This distro should focus not on the stereotypical granny or joe-sixpack users but rather on people who know nothing about computing but are willing to spend their time tinkering with Linux to learn more. Linux is great for learning how computers work and a lot of books are easier to understand than MSDN. I think the website should recommend a couple of good books that explain how Linux actually works. And set up good, friendly forums and a wiki.

The real problem is that most banks wouldn't ask you for ALL personal information that most phishers do, they prefer to copy it from some real document as well as see you in person. The phisher may get you CC number (if it's posted) or some other kind of information, but most banks don't show ALL info online. But .NET, just like Java only needs the VM and not the whole OS.
