    Being a teacher I can assure that most teachers do not uderstand the Internet. Most teachers barley know computers.

    I know becasue I am the one the other teachers alwys comes to when something goes wrong. And I do have professional IT experiance.

    First, America is a Republic not a democracy. Many of the founding fathers were appalled by the thought of America being a democracy and saw it as nothing more then mob rule. Which is what a democracy is.

    Second, Indies do not win for many reasons. The main reason is that a vote for an Indie is seen as a tossed away vote. The last indie who really had a chance was Ross Perot, till he stabbed himself in the back. The one prior to that was Teddy Roosevelt.

    Third, yes the US has a higher reelection rate then the USSR did. However, you have a true choice in the US, you did not in the USSR. You may have hate both choices but you still have a choice

    Lastly, a close battle is good. Very good. I would have like the House to go to the dems and the Senate be split 50/50. With a Republican president. Can you say nothing getting done! That would be good for the US, two years of bottle-necks and partisanship. I would also like a Dem President, a republican house and a 50/50 senate.

    Bad news Jennings, I did not vote in every race for a reason. Just because I did not vote for someone does not mean my vote is invalid.


    So leave me vote alone! If I could vote NONE OF THE ABOVE I woud.

    The movie Disclosure http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109635/ had the single most worst stupid 3d interface.

    In the movie they had to walk through a virtual database while walking. Then try to find something that was filed in virtual drawers, then bring the virtual file to a place to print the stupid file.

    Let me see . . . activate Spotlight (okay I am using a Mac) type in few words and bing my file pops up, double click and I am gone. Total time 5 seconds.

    The movie Disclosure . . .
    Put on virtual gear (10 minutes)
    Step on the pad and start walking
    Search around a database while walking(hours)
    FInd the file (10 minutes)
    Send the virtual file to the screen or printer (10 seconds)
    Get the virtual gear off (10 Minutes)
    Fill out a form explaining why you broke the %#(#)&%%^&#@)@*% goggles. (2 hours)
    Explain to boss why you broke the ^%^*(@#*)#@&%@(* goggles (4-5 hours)
    Go to make a change in the file (2 minutes)

    Actually grad students are a really good source if they are in their field.

    Plus it is far easier to get grad students to do something like this than others.

    Speaking as someone who is an expert in a a field, I regularly review articles of interest in topics that I am teaching at the time. Articles that my students will be using.

    So I review about 150+ articles twice in the past two years. I know students will use wikipedia, so I make sure they are at least mostly correct and mostly free of bias.

    For the record, I did not touch many of the articles.

    I understand your comments. This is something that I think is scary. The worst part is that I do not know why it is so scary.

    You think companies like citibank, wells fargo, BOA, and 5/3rd bank and others who are the ones be defamed would go after these people with uzis. I think the phish people need to be punished, and terrorized.

    W Does M$ really have altruistic motives? Where will money be made here. I am more worried about positive political feedback (i.e. bribes) for this 'free' service.

    As far as being sued in another country. The Pirate Bay legal department does not seem to worry about this. http://thepiratebay.org/legal

    The real question is where does this stop. We have all seen where something starts as good and leads to a quagmire. In the long run the people who are meant to benefit are entrapped in the systems and lives are made worse for the wear.

    1. The end user may be to stupid.

    2. Worse, the end user may be really fed up with a virus and try Linux (or Mac) and install a virtual machine. The end user then realizes they only boot vista every once in awhile and really do not need the next upgrade of Windows, Office, and other MS junk.

    3. The home user is a moron.

    I would love to have this in US.

    Not the web based voting guide . . . parties to choose from. Where governments are actually representative of the people rather than the lesser of two evils. Sure the president would be one of the two major parties . . . however, the deadlock in congress would be great. None with a majority . . . that would be awesome. No, new laws. Most of the dumb laws all have sunset provisions on them such as NCLB, patriot act, and whole bunch more would just go bye-bye.

    Someone mentioned the http://www.politicalcompass.org/uselection I like this one thing it acuratly shows is the two dominat parties are both right (which I am) and authtorian. Of course they are. How would they not be.

    I remember a few years ago (over 10 years) there was an article in the OC Reg. (So Cal) about RIAA (or ASCAP) going to differing businesses and seeing if they were playing copyrighted music. IF they were and did not pay the extortion fee. The RIAA (or ASCAP) would then fine them and demand the extortion money.

    If they refused to pay up they would take them to court. I do not think anyone went to court.

    So does this surprise me. Not really.

    This is a small claims lawsuit. It this took up a real court's time. I would be ticked. Plus there is always the chance to be on Judge Judy or the People's Court and make more money. Of course is this really worth the effort?

    All the local ya-hoos (this is a reference to Guliver's Travels, not a website, for those of you who do not read) have started having live people call me, daily. these live people screech through their memorized speeches quickly. They then hang up. I feel like that I have a drive-by phone call. The real problem with these calls. Is I am to darn polite to tell them off. As soon as I wait for them to breathe they hang up.

    Censorship only happens when the government censors something. Which happens very very rarely.

    Most of the times it is a company limiting materials. Which is known as a company limiting materials and NOT CENSORSHIP.

    Examples of this occur weekly and sometimes daily.

    Not to get to far afield here.

    The problem with the 3rd party is . . . they really have no chance of winning. Even if and I stress if they would win say the presidency there is no congress to support anything. This person would have no party to help out.

    Ok so we then elect an independent senator or HOR member. They have no party to push through the legislation.

    Not to sound as to much of pessimist the problem is a 3rd party means nothing in America other then feeling good that I did not vote for a R or a D.

    Now if we had a parliament . . . then a 3rd party would have a chance, look at Israel.

    The only way a 3rd party makes sense is to elect the president (or governor) and then about 25% of the Senate and HORs

    Despite this pessimism I am voting third party and have for quite a long time.

    This is a case where the politician knows they have to say something. They cannot say no. Because if they do then they feel like they are not hip.

    So they say something stupid and let the spin doctors work it out.

    The difference is between the politician and the welder, doctor or forest ranger. The doctor, the welder and the forest rangers are not setting long term decisions and policies regarding the internet.

    IF someone is making policy regarding something, say a doctor and your health treatment, I would expect that doctor has more knowledge of my health and well being than a welder.

    That is the difference.

    The Constitution applies inside the United States. Yes of course it does. You are IN the United States on US soil when going though customs. Last time I went through customs in Philly. As I recall that is well inside the boarders of the United States.

    However, I am wondering how much of this applies to inter-state (NY to CA) traffic. There is TSA everywhere in airports and you are subject to them when flying say from Minneapolis to Dallas and never leaving US airspace.
