I never claimed that the US is alone in being rude (it is not), and I never claimed that Canada was perfect (it is not). Don't put words into my mouth. I am not talking about Paris (I have heard they they are very rude), I never even said that the US was the rudest place in the world (I imagine it is not).
Obviously it depends on where you are, I have tried to make it abundantly clear that there are exceptions to the rude American I am referring to, but you don;t seem to want to acknowledge that.
The rudest Places in the US I have been to are LA, San Diego and rural Virginia, the nicest place (peoplewise) is Point Roberts.
I am basing my opinions on my personal experiences when dealing with Americans. I have spent a fair bit of time in the US, both visiting family and working. There is a noticeable difference in attitude (again with exceptions) when you cross the boarder; people tend to be ruder and more arrogant in the US when compared to Canada.
The only people this affects are those who use the file in an illicit manner (distributing it on P2P)
Since many people put these files on portable devices, and portable devices are occasionally lost/stolen, it affects more than just pirates.
What apple should have done is encrypted the personal info, and kept the keys. That way apple could still track a file to a particular user of they wanted to, but that users personal information would not be available to whoever happens to find/steal their portable device.
what you said makes sense, but why spend millions of dollars creating something as complex as AACS when CSS or any other simple easily cracked DRM scheme would accomplish the same thing
"What does that have to do with (human or non-human) global warming?"
While climate change may not be the greatest cause of biodiversity loss (that honour goes to habitat loss)it is still a significant factor, and it is a factor that will only get larger over time as climate change worsens.
I think its fair to say that this happens with any major releases of any OS (not just MS).
I seem to recall driver issues when OSX came out which was the last major OS release from Apple, and Apple has many fewer driver to deal with than MS.
Truecrypt does something similar called a hidden volume. essentially it is a volume within a volume, and since truecrypt data looks the same a free space within a volume (they are both essentially random) there is no way of knowing if a hidden volume is present.
Here in Canada was had a Politician recommend a similar system...
"When former Canadian Alliance leader Stockwell Day ran for Prime Minister of Canada, he proposed a mechanism to call for a referendum. A petition on any particular subject which gathered at least 350,000 signatures of voting age citizens ("3% of the electors") would automatically trigger a national referendum.
Mercer's "rant" asked viewers to log on to the 22 Minutes website, and sign an online petition asking the party leader to change his name to Doris Day (after the singer/actress). Producers claim to have obtained in excess of 1,200,000 online votes."
Skype does do this alread, and they do a damn good job if it. The problem is that many people do not use skype, but do use MSN... now i can talk to them if i want.

woulditbe possible for MS or google to implement a system where the data is encrypted on their servers... BUT the key is on your computer (or a usb stick).
I am not an expert but maybe someone who is could figure out how to do this.
it was an online HD, that worked just like physical ones in your computer.
I used it years ago in 1996, or 1997. it was great, but it had only a very small storage amount. I used it until the company shut down... or maybe they started to charge for the service. *i was broke back then
This Idea is not new, but with broadband and cheap storage is a much better solution.
People loose portable devices. This means that it affects more than just pirates.
google has (so far) embraced open standards, something the MS have always been very reluctant to do.
the google monopoly (again so far) has much less lock in than MS products.
Both these things can change in the future but based on them I think that Google would be a friendlier evil overlord than MS

I do not want to imply that all Americans are as I described them.
There are many Americans who are great people, that are generous and a pleasure to be around, unfortunately this has been the exception
Certainly there are smart educated globally aware people in the US, I have even met some of these elusive creatures.
But most of my American experiences have been more along the lines of "US IS THE BEST AT EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME!"
Hopefully I have just had bad luck in my experiences with Americans, and what you describe is the norm.
"Why anyone would enter a contract that states "You pay me every month full and in advance and I promise you nothing" is beyond me."
Because people should have to be contract lawyers to get internet access, and because most ISPs have similar conditions.
the internet is not made of pipes... it's made of TUBES!!

I agree with waiting until most of the driver issues are resolved. Let others test and work out the kinks in any new OS before jumping ship
I think its fair to say that this happens with any major releases of any OS (not just MS). I seem to recall driver issues when OSX came out which was the last major OS release from Apple, and Apple has many fewer driver to deal with than MS.
the same thing happened with XP... it should be expected in any new OS

This assumes MS and google care about privacy
anyone remember xdrive?
