    The only people who thought the A380 was the future of aviation were the people who designed it and their counterparts in the marketing department. Itâ(TM)s an incredible feat of engineering and an amazing aircraft, but by the time it was released Boeing had already seen decreased orders for modern variants of the 747 (which cost considerably less than the A380).

    I agree. Like Concorde there are a handful of routes where it could work, but not nearly enough to make it profitable.

    Actually this is a very good point. Is it worse to build an unfeeling robot to fight, or to remove all human emotion and compassion from humans like Islam does with its vial belief system?

    I once read an article on Linux on the Desktop, and the cases where it makes sense. Basically it was

    - Organisations which need very limited specialist finctionality (E.g. Point of Sale)
    - Very small organisations who can make do with a few standard apps and can spend time converting formats
    - Very large organisations that can have whole departments to customise apps (leverage open source) change formats of incoming documents, give support, etc.

    I would think that Barcelona would be medium sized and not benefit so much , though this could be mitigated by working with a support partner ... with a lower saving!

    But what happens when they detect something?

    This is what I was going to ask. Do they block traffic (risking false positives) or merely alert you to the fact that some thing(s) on your LAN are acting suspiciously?

    AMD never said there was a near zero risk for Spectre.

    To be fair they did say that there is Near zero risk of exploitation of Spectre variant 2 (Branch Target Injection):

    Variant Two Branch Target Injection
    Differences in AMD architecture mean there is a near zero risk of exploitation of this variant. Vulnerability to Variant 2 has not been demonstrated on AMD processors to date.

    Won't the males who do survive produce offspring more likely to be male in higher temperatures. I would expect a dip in pupulation (as 1% males can't fertilise all the females) but in the long run it would correct

    Might want to get his eyes checked. Avoiding night driving can be an early indicator of cataracts.

    Thanks. Sad to say it is early-stage macular degeneration, and at the doctor's advice he has 6-monthly checks to see that he can still drive safely in daylight.

    My dad now only drives for local journeys during daylight hours. For anything else he either gets a lift or a taxi. I'm sure that if a self-driving car was cheaper than using taxis he'd sign up.

    With FM being phased out, albeit very slowly, whouldn't they be better including DAB or long-wave AM (which is used for things like world service and reaches valleys, etc. that other broadcasts don't)?

  18. It would be good to have speculative execution protection as a compiler option rather than as a patch to binaries. This could tune the protection to what is necessary for each specific processor.

    Near zero implies that it is possible! What are the differences, and why do they make it unlikely? could enhancements to the attack make it feasible?

    Funnily enough people are bringing a class action lawsuit for exactly this against Volkswagen after a fix to the emissions cheat reduced the power of their cars.

    Not sure where you work but I'd expect if a manager burst in on someone with something important, and they were watching cartoons instead of working, they would suddenly find themselves with more time to watch cartoons.

    Whereas if he burst in on you watching porn he'd shuffle out again thinking "there but for the grace of God go I".
