I don't think guns are the same topic, as there is no clear side as to which is good. Although I wholeheartedly believe I am correct, I understand and realize that there are many people who disagree with me and have valid points...

Basically what I am trying to say is as Information has a clear good side and a clear bad side, it's only the point as to where that line is drawn that is questionable. Not which side is good

Flying spaghetti monsterism I believe highlights one of the best things of wikipedia. The work that the "FSM movement" is doing I believe is ridiculously powerful and needed to be done a long time ago, and any press it gets is fantastic. Now the actual debate for why this is necessary and the good vs. evil of ID being taught in US schools is not what I want to get into, I think we can both agree if nothing else FSM is bringing more attention to a topic that is crying for more people to get involved.

The fact that a place like wikipedia can have an article on FSM is amazing, knowing that other reference sources would not include this. Regardless of the "flash in the pan" type of media coverage, if a neutral article on any topic can be written why not include it, that's one of the highlights of the project.. no?

Your comment makes you come off as an elitist, where only topics you feel are important should be included, but why stop there?

I'm sorry I don't intend to offend here. I just want to highlight some of the powers that wikipedia holds for me. And I would also like to thank you for all your work on this project. As you can probably tell from my grammar and spelling errors I myself do not visit the library very often.

  19. Death vs. Back Door. on Creative Zens Ship with Worms · · Score: 2, Interesting

While I totally agree with the concept I don't think your argument holds up.

If brakes fail on a car a person dies, while if a OS has a hole privacy is breached, and data is corrupted. This is not quite the same level of damage(although I'm sure there are cases which go both ways.. I'm speaking in general here)

The problem is if a new Honda Civic was to wait in storage for 2 years it would still be allowed on the road, and would be in better condition than the greater population of the cars out there. While if you wait 2 years for an os things change so rapidly that the os needs to be patched right out of the box.

Beyond that there are a lot of people (or very few very good people) who aim to destroy software and find vulnerabilities. While correct me if I'm wrong but unless murder is your goal not to many people target cars so they become a hazard to the owner.

With that said. I do believe that something like shipping a product with a virus which brings us back to TFA, is something that really needs to be followed up on. Creative got caught with their pants down here and I am curious to see what the final result will be.

I'm sure they have something big planned. I doubt they would be using Jabber without planning on using S2S in the future.. The potential for this is HUGE.. Use Google talk and watch Google adds when talking to anybody on any protocol. Why wouldn't they? Remember folks, this is beta software that is only a week old.

I must be honest I am incredibly disappointed with Google talk (as of right now). I'm currently in the process of setting up my own jabber server and I am fairly new to jabber but I really do think that Google talk has a lot more potential..

  21. SCM experence on The End of the Bar Code · · Score: 2, Interesting

man... I used to work at SCM plant that dealt with Ontario Canada, yes that is correct, one location handled every Wal-Mart in Ontario. That place was ridiculously fast, thousands of boxes were running on Km's and Km's track in the ceiling. It was quite the experience just touring around checking out how boxes were tracked with their barcodes and then kicked off onto correct ramps to corresponding waiting trucks for a specific location. Now they intend to make it even more efficient and faster... wow..

If only they could put half of the engineering they put into that plant into every Wal-Mart so checkout lines would disappear. Something like the self checkout at Loblaws combined with this RFID would be very sweet. Walk through a sensor and swipe my credit card and then off to the car in seconds...
