There's one VERY large difference between P2P and VHS... the companies behind the legal battle to keep VHS legal are themselves megacorps whereas those behind P2P do not have the money to win this fight.
Actually, I think installing Microsoft Project is better analogized by taking a gigantic dump in your laptop - pee isn't really all that offensive, after all.
They seem to be having smashing success with the pilot Blue Steel program in Russia. I suggest we hire some consultants from Moscow and fly them over to help us implement our instance.
I personally experience a very lightweight version of identity theft in regards to spam - I have a very simple e-mail address (which I am withholding for obvious reasons) that is COMMONLY used as the SOURCE for spam... I get probably about 1500 bounces a day (which I auto filter) and occasionally get e-mails from admins who actually believe the spam originated from me.
Luckily, my e-mail provider knows better but still - it is indeed VERY easy to forge an e-mail address.
Of course it won't run linux! It's only a video card, for cryin' out loud! In order for it to run linux, it needs to be a more general purpose computer.
Yeah... That's it! You're access rights are revoked, turn in your/. account at the door on your way out and enjoy the rest of your internet-free life.;-)
But, to be fair, the comparison is a bit weak. Internet Time was NOT recognizable as time... it was just a fractional value of, what, 1000?
It does seem that eventually, we will move to one single universal time... but I do not think the communication revolution is going to be when. Instead, I believe that it will be the travel revolution (i.e. when taking a hop from L.A. to Paris is like driving from L.A. to Vegas today). When there is almost no commitment required to actually TRAVEL anywhere in the world... THEN I believe we'll see people start to be readier for this change.
Your statement isn't quite what I'd call accurate... There was nothing in there about him proclaiming himself a god, but there WAS something in there about folks that claim to be good followers believing in this leader - that he would snow the population he is in actuality opposed to.
Still, the thing is so open to interpretation that I know for damn sure I could be wrong.

Mod parent up, he states the REAL point.
Hey! It's an article about Mars, and there's still no press release from the Mars High Council about this! I think someone's been sleeping...
Apple didn't write Visicalc... heck, reading the article SUMMARY would've told you that much.
Nice article about it at Wiki... Nope, NetBIOS is also not a Microsoft original.
I'm not even sure that e-mail viruses are a Microsoft original... anybody know?
Dude... if you gotta hide shit from your wife, time to get a new wife.
You say "yup even slashdot" like it's not the MOST biased of the lot...
Now, admittedly, the bias seems to be "Have we already reported on this? Oh, good, then we can report on it again."
heh.
Wow... 5 times more PHYSICAL spam than electronic spam?
Either you get a TON of junk mail or you don't get very much spam.
I think that was something called sarcasm.
How convenient that when spoken, the name still works... the "You Pee" Battery.

Start fining companies that employ the spammers instead of the spammers themselves? Ahhhhhh... I think I like that idea.
So, its less a DDOS-style attack and more a simple DOS attack. heh.

Though calling Microsoft the Good Guys might be carrying it a bit far...
It would explain the seemingly random slippage of their schedules...

Though I do hear they have ported netbsd to it.
And yet... here we are... posting on /. on company time.
Yeah... That's it! You're access rights are revoked, turn in your /. account at the door on your way out and enjoy the rest of your internet-free life. ;-)
I didn't use the word system... one single universal time, as implied by this entire thread, means the same time anywhere on earth.
RTFT. ;-)
Politically speaking, I think the DST change they threw in is working... it detracts from everything else in the bill.
Politics at work.

Yes, but he didn't say anything about being chipped... ;-)
