Are you serious? That was the biggest waste of my time. There is a huge difference from being picked up by the feds and being questioned at your doorstep. I have absolutely no problem with the government asking me questions and I don't know how you consider that represive. And you compare them to the SS!!!
Does a government that doesn't ask questions even exist? Please tell me you were kidding.
I really don't understand this whole 'backslash' deal. Sure it summarizes some of the better comments, but isn't that what the moderation system is for? Or is this just a new term for 'dupe'? On the front page even...
This could also be a result of ISPs saying they are going to charge google a second time for bandwidth usage (tiered internet). I guess if the price gets too high, they have somewhere else to go.
I spend most of my time commuting to work in Atlanta. I've gotten pretty good at spotting cell phone users on the road; they break sporadically when there is no one around them and they hesitate alot. I usually try to call them out when I see them. Sometimes I'm wrong, sometimes it's just a woman.
Hmmm, interesting. I've always thought of voting as a way to support an idea or belief, but you say it's far simpler than that huh? Funny, I don't see this in Common Sense anywhere.
And you're all for the Patriot Act, because you are a patriot, right?
Your sarcasm aside, I think what he is referring to is the extensions these copyrighted works keep getting (you know, the first sentence that you missed). So no, when a work is first released, they do hold the copyright.

And yes, most of those books talk about "getting updated",installing drivers, web browsing and changing themes. Oh ya, there is even something included in there that isn't in the Ubuntu one: controlling spyware.
I think I've just been trolled.
Relax kid, no need for name calling. I was simply bringing up a situation where they have implemented a type of censorship here in the US. I had not realized until today that things have changed (I really don't go looking up Scientology too much). This still did happen. I'm sorry it got you so excited (very entertaining)
Precisely. I've run into many Christians who have these same opinions about science and questioning the Bible. These people don't understand the bad image it gives everyone who says they are a Christian. Who would force ignorance on themselves over such a topic? If anything, they should believe it strengthens the Bible's validity or atleast gives us a better understanding of what it means. If what Christians believe is really true, they have nothing to fear. And if it's not, then they shouldn't believe in it.
Agreed. I found an interesting article here that supports your statements. In it Mark Shuttleworth himself says that Ubuntu isn't ready for the server enterprise market, citing a lack of management tools for Ubuntu. But they do seem to be taking the steps towards the enterprise market with the release of Ubuntu for SPARC systems and starting commercial support.
There's plenty of CIO's that would rather pick the devil they know aka:Windows and have predictable and known problems that everyone else in the boardroom understands (and sadly expects!), than strike out into an 'unknown' platform with unknown risk for the sake of a coupl'a hundred grand -- and more importantly: risk their job.
Exactly. It's not really their monopoly they are using as leverage, it's more their marketing (they are a marketing company, right?).

Clusters are mostly custom build to specific needs, by people who have enough technical knowledge to assemble whatever they need. Windows Cluster-flavor must attract them by its qualities, not because laziness drives them to choose whatever option came with the box...
I doubt it will be Window's cluster qualities, but more so the qualities/advantages to using clusters. I'm sure alot of high-ups in the corporate world have never even thought about clustering, and that's where the Microsoft marketing team "enlightens" them.
New games will appear, probably Vista-only, as DirectX won't be released for XP. So it'll be either upgrade or play old games. (Unless the game makers will find a way to avoid OS-dependence).
Do you really want your rights dependent on someone elses judgement of how human you are based on your intelligence (as judged by them), whether someones actions have contibuted to/caused your existence?
There is a huge difference between a 21 year old and an unborn child. That is not just an opinion, I can support myself and communicate (say 'No'). Are you suggesting that if it is ok to work on embryos, it's ok to work on 21 year olds?
I also have no problems with parents killing their kids.
When we have a largely agreed upon stage at which an embryo is considered to be human, much of the arguement on these issues will be dealt with.
Bullshit. This is all a façade by the religious zealots to not allow people to "play God". All I'm saying is, that you don't have to have a part in this or anything that comes from it. Your hands are clean. But please, don't get in the way. Especially when you don't know.
There are many diseases that are devestating and stem cells seem to hold great potential for treating them. However, I, for one, would forego such treatments if I had to live with the idea that a life was created and then destroyed just so that I could be cured.
Yes, and that's your prerogative. So please, don't get in the way of people who do not have the same beliefs as you. You won't go to hell for other people's murder, don't worry.
If you are worried about life, you will be very sad to find out that you kill things just by being alive.
You claim the above poster is basing his reasoning on emotion. Well, you are basing yours on religion and your own morals.
There are quite few "clear cut" moral decisions in life
This is my opinion as well. So then the situation is: possibly be killing humans to save the lives of many. Even if we know for sure that we are killing humans, this argument would still not be over. Bringing about death to humans to solve problems is not unheard of in our human history... I would judge that it is for the greater good.
Now, I'm not saying that just killing humans is ok. But if you were faced with a situation where you could save thousands of people by killing a few hundred, what would you choose? That is my main point. Would you stop someone from making this decision, even when you don't know?
But what really bothers me about this situation is that no one knows for sure when a human being becomes such. Me, I would say that it starts somewhere where you are able to make conscious decisions and think for yourself. To me, a baby when compared to a teenager(for example) is nothing; it is an unintelligent being. A baby is just a potential human with a life, not totally unlike an animal. And it just seems to me, that the people who are saying that an embryo is a human being are the same people who say that wearing a condom is murder..
You seem to be assuming the embryos would become living human beings if they don't get harvested. The fact is, they wouldn't be there (is that murdering too?). That is one of the things that makes this different from abortion and from killing human beings for that matter.
I look at this as the good FAR outweighs the bad. We're supposedly "killing" something that wouldn't have existed in the first place for the sake of lives that WE KNOW exist and that are suffering.
You can't make an omlet without scrambling some eggs.
There's also not a single screenshot in the book. Newbies love screenshots. So do authors - they get to pad out page after page of their 500 page books with screenshots. There's a useful middle ground, and the Ubuntu documentation isn't it.
I don't think this is the book's intentions. This looks more like a quick reference guide. Have you even tried installing Dapper Drake? Just so you know: it acts as a LiveCD at first, and places you on a desktop with 2 icons. One is listed examples and one says install. Guess what you'll find in the examples folder.... N00b documents with lots of pictures.
Besides, I find command line instructions to be easier to convey to those that are unfamiliar with the gui.
Have to agree with you on this one. TheVede becoming EIC was the last straw for me... He used to be restricted to the hardware section, and all of his Goddamn pictures too! The EIC seems to have changed alot recently.

.08 is the legal limit in most states. Not drunk, maybe impaired.

Alright, http://directory.google.com/Top/Society/Issues/Int ellectual_Property/Copyrights/Digital_Millennium_C opyright_Act/Google_Erasure_of_Anti-Scientology_Li nks
Do a search for scientology. Right now it is 12.6 million vs 17.6 million. When I tried it a few months ago, it used to tell you...
I think you'll be hardpressed to find a Chinamen that gives a damn (and that wouldn't turn you in for doing so).
It should also be noted that our results here in the US are also censored.
Ya, 'cause big oil defintately doesn't have any money... [/sarcasm]
Not to mention, most of the people who hold office right now have something to lose if global warming precautions were taken.

So then you're paying 150+ for a 'new and improved search box'. Sweet deal.
There is, it's called OpenGL.
