I don't think it's neccessarily about bragging rights (although most definately true for a fanboy). It's just that most of these "new" features have already been out for a looong time elsewhere, and it could have been of use to you far earlier.
I'm definately going to be using the OS that implements the cool new features first, but if another comes along and does it better, I see no reason not to switch. But that's the thing, what cool new feature is Microsoft going to be the first to implement now? None. What cool new features from others are they going to expand upon? Highly subjective, but I would say none (staying on-topic, I'd prefer XGL to either).

I'd still play mine if the controllers weren't prone to get that wobbly joystick feeling after almost no time. I guess that's my only complaint, the controllers sucked in terms of quality.
My friends and I still play Mario Kart 64 everyday on our projector. We even have the gaycube version, but never play it. It is one of the greatest games ever, but you are correct about the joysticks... we have about 8 controlls, 5 are so warn down they are the "handicap or marioparty controllers"
I really hope the Wii version is an improvement (unlike the purple lunchbox one *shudder*).
His comment definately was not an ignorant one, and it holds true from my experience.
I really don't understand the logic in demanding (very rudely I might add) that someone work on your problems for free. You should try to show a little more respect towards people that offer you their hard work for free. No one is forcing you to use OSS. The developers don't owe you anything, I don't know how you could possibly see it that way.
However, I'm sure they would love to hear your constructive criticism, or better yet, you fixing some of the problems that bother you. This is how OSS works. Sure, you may think that no one wants to work on the bugs, even if it were true (which has not been my experience either), that's their prerogative.
In my mind, the only person who owes someone anything here is you. You owe them for letting you use their software for free.
It's a perfectly valid complaint about a product that it doesn't work if you didn't follow the directions TO THE LETTER.
You're correct. And it's a perfectly valid response to tell these people Gentoo is not for them.
Imagine a cake recipe that was inedible if you cooked it for 9 minutes instead of 8 1/2 minutes, or at 420 degrees instead of 425 degrees. It's often difficult to follow directions perfectly, especially when there's
a lot of different and complicated ones.
Analogies were not ment to be some kind of proof. Instead, analogies should be used to help someone understand something by putting it in terms they can understand. My experience with computers tells me you must be precise, while cooking: not so much.
If it's really that important, I suggest redundancy either way you go. With a harddrive, I would say you have atleast a year of constant use before you have to start worrying about it failing.
However, he says he wants to do the full backup and then possibly have incremental backups after that. For those incremental backups, I would say go with the harddrives. Incremental backups mean he has his data on two different harddrives, and the odds of him losing them both in the same day are slim.
I'm a little confused with your story. When I installed HL2, I registered an email address with Steam and then registered my HL2 CD-Key to that email address. If you were able to play the first part of the game, I would assume you did this; which would make it impossible for someone else to re-register your CD-Key. What did I miss?
All I want to know is, did they make the pistol suck less than it does in Halo 2? Because that was a bit disappointing.
Couldn't agree with you more; that and the damn sword really made Halo 2 multiplayer suck ass. Halo 1 multiplayer is a much more enjoyable experience. I stopped playing Halo 2 when I got lost for the 141241st time; the only challenging part was finding out where to go.
You don't want to pay for the music and this is an easy excuse.
Have you seen the cost of music? Have you seen how rich everyone on that side is? Have you seen the terms at which you purchase the expensive music? Have you seen the tactics they use and the lives they've destroyed? I for one believe this world would be a much better place without all of them.
I want to listen to artists with a passion for music, not a passion for money. It is then that I will give them my money (as I do now, with bands that don't sell out). I don't give a damn if you agree with me; just keep giving them money, they do wonderful things with it and as a consumer you're telling them: "I love sucking your cock after you've been fucking me in the ass."
I'm a consumer, and I get my point across with my money. Thanks
You make some very interesting points I've never really thought of before. I believe you are correct when you say that it is sometimes partially the victims fault too. I noticed in my highschool that the kids who didn't stand up for themselves were the ones who got pushed around alot and that ignoring the bullying usually made it worse. I don't neccesarily agree with punishing the victim, but more empowering him with the self confidence to not take any bullshit from people.
As an example: In highschool, I used to sleep everyday in this one Spanish class. I would also pack my lunch, and for a few days I kept noticing at lunch that the chips I packed were missing. Someone was eating my chips while I was sleeping in class. I didn't think, "Oh, I guess I'm going to tell the teacher about that asshole theif." The next morning, I took my chips before going to school and I wanked all in them. That day, I woke up in the middle of class, looked in my lunch bag and asked out loud, "Who took my chips?" Of course no one said shit. Then, I informed the people around me that I had gizzed in them that morning. The one with the red face that everyone was laughing at was the one who ate my damned chips. That was the last time I was bothered. I'm sure it would have had the opposite affect had I relied on some authority figure or ignored what was happening; you are right, depending on some authority figure to defend you from bullying will only make you appear weak, and they won't be around to defend you all the time.
Anyway, my point is that self confidence is one of the best defenses against a bully, as they usually like to prey on easy victims that will let them.
Just because they will offer _some_ online-enabled games for free, doesn't mean all of them will be free. The 'It' in the second sentence seems like it is referring to those games they will release for free, not neccessarily all of the games. You must be new at this...
True. I was just trying to point out that they are more concerned with money than with a headcount of the people who use their products. That 1% probably gives them more money than the 'cheap' 99%. Which is why this whole thing really isn't that ridiculous at all (they just found a way to sell 4 gfx cards to 1 person).
You...are...kidding... You call people up and bother them and you say they're the assholes?
You have got to realize you are doing more harm than good. If people are interested in voting and the like, they will find out for themselves which party is aligned with their beliefs.
Make yourself available, but don't push yourself onto people who aren't interested (who are btw the extreme majority of the people you bother).
Totally. It's alot like going outside on a cloudy day: you just know it's going to rain or maybe snow. Then when it comes, it's just better to be inside.
Am I the only one that thinks Bill Gates is getting out of the business before Google embarrasses them so that He can blame the company's failure on Ballmer?
So you're saying that you'll teach your children to ignore any crimes they see and just bury their head in the sand? If they see a little old lady being beaten, they should just stay out of it and not "rat" to the government on the criminal? I'm sure your children will turn out to be fine citizens.
Just as there is a difference between exploring a dark alley at 3am and surfing the net, there is a difference between an old lady being beaten and 'copyright piracy'.
I'm also glad you would have no problem with what either your neighbors or coworkers might think
That is also correct.
This is government business. Sure, it would be terrible if they came and took you in the night; but lets not treat the FBI knocking on your door and asking to talk like they are abusing your rights. They are simply wondering what your intent is. 'Oh, you are going to vote differently in the next election' or 'oh, you are planning on attacking the US'. I'd be more creeped out to find out that, instead of questioning you directly, they follow your every move.
I want them to question these people's intentions. And as soon as it goes beyond that, I'm there with you, viva la revolution and all that rot. But seriously, do you expect them to turn and look the other way when someone is speaking out against them? "Oh, we'll deal with them when they are physically attacking us." That would be fucking stupid.
Not to mention the fact that the only response to the question "wouldn't companies have to pay a premium to get their content to end-users" was "Bellsouth has promised not to do that."
That definately caught my attention.. If we're giving these guys more power to fuck us over, I want a little more than a promise, coming from Hellsouth especially. I really liked this quote here:
But if Jonathan the musician wants to make his product more available for people to download and pays that "turbocharge" fee, then he is likely to get more customers, assuming he's selling his product.
What what whaaaat? More available? WTF does that mean? He's already paying someone to make his songs available (and 'more available', if he wants). You see, that's how it works: if a webmaster wants more bandwidth he pays his host, if a user wants to download faster he pays his ISP.
Something tells me if we pay these guys twice, like they want us to, we're still going to be stuck with the internet we have now. Then, if someone wants to pay more, it will come at the expense of the people who aren't paying more. I don't trust any ISP.
I don't think it's neccessarily about bragging rights (although most definately true for a fanboy). It's just that most of these "new" features have already been out for a looong time elsewhere, and it could have been of use to you far earlier.

Personally, I use both DVDs and HDs.

What about Philip Morris' lobbyists? It seems they would have alot to gain through the legalization of marijuana.

Yes... the richest 1%.
Why is this modded funny? It's getting there.

This situation is very much like 1984... There, I said it. Oh please let some karma pour over into my cup!
