Out of the distributions I've tried, Opensuse has been the easiest for me. It just required installing the rpms, then installing the database from the/usr/share/docs directory. After that, mythtv-setup ran without any problems.
Ubuntu seems to be stuck at 0.18.1, unfortunately.
I think the features freeze was a month or two ago, and the main changes since then have been bugfixing. Gentoo only unmasked 2.14 a couple of weeks ago, so possibly Suse didn't think it was stable enough at the time either. It also only has kde 3.5.1 since 3.5.2 came out slightly too late.

You should be able to just download the netinst CD and use that to upgrade (remember to make a note of the server's IP address first (: ). Alternatively, you can change your sources in Yast to SL-10.1 from SL-10.0-OSS and use the system update thing. A clean install is generally safest if practical, though.
If you're asking about Xgl and compiz, it works with Xorg 7and the cvs version of Mesa for some of the opengl stuff. I've got it running nicely on an nvidia 6200 based card, I think it works with older cards as well.
"And what about Gnome vs. KDE? I don't know ANY distributions that have fully-fucntional versions of both Gnome and KDE so if you've forced to switch between them you're screwed (except Gentoo, and that doesn't count). Maybe it's just me, but I have a problem with something being broken on just about EVERY distribution out there. I've had major problems with dependencies, for example."
In Ubuntu, KDE is just an "apt-get install kubuntu-desktop" (or install kde) away. Assuming the user had read some of the documentation before installing a new OS, they shouldn't find that too difficult. OpenSuse (or however they're capitalising it this week) give you the option to install gnome, kde or both.
It's not even that hard anymore. Not sure about Debian, but with Ubuntu you get the option of having an icon in the notification area which downloads updates autimatically (similar to Yast)
From what I've heard, the lack of success in Japan comes from the games available for the 360. They tend to be more interested in strategy/rpgs rather than first person shooters.
Stupid, Pointless, Annoying Messages is often used. Not sure if there's anything official.
It might also be to differenciate itself from the meat based product, which is Spam (or something).
You can usually get relatively cheap boxsets once the whole series comes out from online anime vendors (14 dvds for $70 in one case). ADV also has occasional cheap dvds (although only in USA/Canada). At least it's better than Japan's 5000yen/2 episodes. (:
The developement version will be started almost immediately, so you can update your sources from Hoary/Breezy to Dapper. The final release will be in April 06, since they're every 6 months.
Or 'emerge --newuse world' if you just want to recompile the programs affected by the change in use flags.

Have you tried updating to debian unstable (Sid, I think)? That should get you fairly up to date...

Or would archive.org work in this case?

Might be for the benefit of those who turn off signatures.

Possibly the similarity between 'NMR' and Enema had an influence as well?

It's quite useful reading through the translator's notes (http://www-fi3.starwreck.com/annotated_translatio n.pdf). Seems that quite a bit was lost in the subtitling.
