Look up
Agnosticism
and
Atheism on the wikipedia.
Atheis is a belief that there is no God.
Agnosticism is the admition that there is no way to know, so why bother making the choice?
Do you trust Iron Mountains handling of the databases that track all of this backed up data? - What is their DR process, how do they protect their DB's?
Except Symantec BackupExec, aka Veritas NetBackup, is a horrible piece of software to use. Attending a course for it, the instructor was unable to recover the NetBackup database after a 'simulated' failure.
If your looking at solutions of this kind, I would recommend Tivoli Storage Manager, and use it's subfile differencing to minimize data transfer.
Although I actually wouldnt. I would recommend educating the users to use central repositories and DB servers for code/data, and backing that up instead.
'Small Business' hmm, welll, I have seen very small setups of the following, although they were for big business, so they could probably just absorb some of the cost but I'm not a costs and stuff type person.
but still, try looking into the possibility of using
Tivoli Storage Manager, with adaptive subfile differencing and 'incremental forever' policy (no full backups other than backup No. 1, TSM will track deleted/moved files, enabling it to 'build' a picture of a f/s at a given date and then recover a f/s to that state)
The biggest problem I have seen with laptop backups though, is people turning them off because they slow their machine way down, or alternatley people just not doing them if left to their choice when to backup.
If you can get these people to keep valuable data in a central place (cvs/svn repo's, Databases servers for db's) and back that up, it should make you feel warmer and fuzzier..
Im not sure what special about this?
replace University with DataCentre and this happens all the time.
With SAN's and dark fibre, you can get machine A at datacentre A writing data directly to tapes in an automated library in DataCentre B, and vice versa.
and they generally backup a hell of a lot more than email and websites.
I tried a trackball once, and what it really showed to me was how much my index finger has 'learned' to be a mouse clicking device, and not something to push/pull a trackball around.
If I tried to make any fine movements using my index finger on the trackball, I discovered I was unable, my finger would start to jitter about. My left hand or other fingers were fine, just my right index finger gets the jitters.
I put it down to my brain haveing learned and imprinted the clicky behaviour fo rso long it had perhaps lost the fine motor control needed for the trackball?
when you see 'confirm email*' on a form, do you feel compelled to go Shift+Tab / Ctrl+C / Tab / Ctrl+V?
yes. i do it a lot. and wondered, often, if others did it too.
thanks:)
If we are forced to post original material, because otherwise it is filtered, then theres a huge motivation? to be creative, and to ceate for ourselves.
How iwerd is it that so many human beings are toiling to, in essence, line up a couple of billion little on/off switches in jsut the right sequence
I dont care what anyone says. Three set-top boxes is rolls royce, there aint no beating three set-top boxes. I hope they do special orders - Three set-top boxes with inset diamonte stones would be the honey.
on the thumbnail example, for a few seconds I thought it wasn't showing the 'after' version - it seemed to look just like some really badly formatted navigation bar..
but, once I did look at it and read it, I thought it was easier to comprehend what was written - kind of more relaxing to red than the block text. Although, I dont think the cruddy jpeg compression helped..
Checking it every morning is a bit laborious.
I have monitoring set up, making nice webpages permanently displayed and constantly updating. It tells me if it's gone wrong, and will even recover from and re-run certain failures. I don't have to go and ask it.
s'amazing what you can do with a bit of python, unix and apache.
I dont htink its the fact ehy are fun and polished, my impression of nintendo's popular thrust is that it's all about family. And we all hanker after family, right?
If this sticks to adding a second signal at the same frequency at a different time offset, doesn't that make it time division multiplexing?
Correct me.. I'm trying to remember like 15 years ago;P

Regarding a Canal and Waterwheels.
You cannot use a canal to power a water wheel.
Canal's are static bodies of water. They have no flow.
Maybe, Maybe, you could build one on a Lock and hope it's a really busy Lock.

I'm interested in this view. I'm hoping someone who knows stops by..
If I had modpoints today, I would put them all toward a +6 funny campaign.

If 'bullsht' is rumour, then I call the article fair on that point
Nono you have it all wrong. It gives you a perfectly legitimate claim for insurance, hopefully same-value replacement :)
