I was having a few pains with Vista and my laptop just felt sluggish, I installed SP1 last night and my laptop feels a lot more responsive now. The improvement to accelerated graphics is amazing, flip 3d and switcher are now incredibly fast. Hopefully the desktop will go just a smoothly.

Have you ever read any of Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space novels? The paradox is answered by the inhibitors which are a self replicating intelligence.

I too have the Belkin one, but it works wonders for me. I leave it set to 88.1, plug in my iriver h10, and can drive all over the UK and very rarely get any interference. I've never tried it on just battery power though as it came with an in car power adapter.

Thanks for the link, I saw the shorter google video last week and was really impressed. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a let down like black and white did.

not the nasty 500+. Fantastic computer, still works although the monitor and power brick are a bit knackered now. If I start using it a lot again I could just use a TV for the screen I guess. About half of the floppys are corrupted now, absolutely loads of quality games that won't load. I used to love playing about with the Workbench Say application. I got a Pentium60 PC after that with Windows95, that computer barely works, only has a 500MB drive and can only manage 256 colours at the moment.

Well next time I go to the states I'll know not to use whilst then. Any idea as to why it's regarded as pretentious over there? Whilst is less common to be spoken than while over here, but it's not unusual, it just seems a normal word to me.

What's wrong with using whilst? Are you American? I find the differences between American and British English quite interesting. In British English they are both normal to use, although whilst could be considered to be more formal.

Themexp is a bad place to get visual styles from, they wrap them in a spyware installer. You can get more and better ones from here. Alternative patcher. I'm glad you didn't suggest stylexp though. Yz shadow gives similar shadow effects, but it's not perfect.

That's the ridiculous Ubuntu modification of nautillus' spatial browsing, it was changed from the default around the last preview release of Hoary. It was complained about massively in the forums so I'd expect it to change back to the standard behaviour when Breezy is finished. They should really consider enabling browser mode rather than spatial by default, it's far less confusing.
