I already pay this when I pay my vehicle taxes yearly. It's called a gas-guzzler tax.
So now they're wanting to triple dip. Gas + Guzzler + Mileage? Crikey....
I'll check my batteries...when you give me 110v AC 60hz plugs in business class. Of course this wouldn't help the international traveler (where laptops REALLY help pass the time). Most airliners have 115v AC @ 400hz and 28vdc systems...
Or perhaps a universal 12v DC plug. This would require laptop manufacturers to standardize power supplies and plug fittings (yay!). Not an immediate fix by any stretch, but probably the safest ("low" voltage) most efficient (no inverter inefficiencies).
Adobe has worked with 50+ mobile device vendors (Open Screen Project) to improve Flash performance, power management and compatibility on mobile devices in yet-to-be-released Flash 10.1. At the MAX 2009 keynote yesterday, and they demoed Flash 10.1 (full flash, not flash lite) on several mobile devices, including the Pre. Adobe wants as much coverage as it possibly can with Flash, but Apple enjoys it's strong hold over it's App store and the sole publishing technology. Given Apple's lack of interest in allowing device interoperability with iTunes (Palm's Pre, for example), I'd be more inclined to think that it's Apple that is not willing to work with Adobe.
You do realize that you're developing a movie, right? Everything is frame based. callLater helps cut down on repetative calls within the same frame, an delays calls unnecessary in the current frame till then next frame, optimizing rendering performance.
I to work on an enterprise-scale application, and given some strict coding conventions, our interface is snappy and attractive.
Vista-only streams and Silverlight-only clips... no thanks. I am running Vista on one computer, but I refuse to install yet another web-content plugin just because M$ wants to dirty the waters.
I understand NBC is partnered with Microsoft, but NBC's sell out to exclusive software is still astounding, considering the subject at hand.

No embossed logo, only printed. Even so, there's no way to tell which direction the receptacle is orientated without trying to plug it in...
Relying upon manufacturers to adhere to an optional feature is stupid. It should be part of the connector design. In fact, it already is with the mini plugs...
Just a boot screen that is a large, downward-ticking digital clock starting at the ominous '00:00:10' mark would be golden.
'Course you'd never be seen by anyone again and it'd be a good idea to pre-grease any orifice you can think of.

If I can help it, I'll never sit in a different chair. No back/butt/leg fatigue, no sweating.
My company bought all it's engineers Aerons about a year ago, which was my introduction. It was a little unnerving to have a room-temperature back after sitting in executive leather back chairs for the last 5 years, but after you get passed that you simple don't pay attention to your chair... which is a good thing because it means it's not bugging you.
Bought myself one for the home about 2 months ago.
I couldn't agree more.
In fact, he is now *my* hero. I was planning on naming my first son (due in June) "Jeffrey" after my deceased brother. However, after reading this letter, I'm now hard pressed to name him "Kurt Denke" in hopes that my degenerate genes he's inheriting would somehow be buffed.
But Bill's e-meters (and the e-meters other ex-Scientologists have attempted to sell on eBay) are not counterfeits and do not violate the Church of Scientology's trademarks, patents, or copyrights.
In any case, it's a lazy way for EBay to enforce rights compliance.
And a much smaller feature set... Seriously, there are many small PDF viewing apps that "run like a dream" but they don't have all the features that Reader has. It's not really a reflection of the quality of code, but rather the complexity of the application.
The question is, who guarantees security and backups of your data? What happens if the company goes belly up? What if you don't like the latest upgrade of their web app and would rather use the previous version? What if they start to charge for the "webOS" access or increase the existing subscription rates to something you can not afford. It's all in the http://www.ajaxwindows.com/en/terms.jspTOS (section 14) of the site. They assume no responsibility for any type of back up, integrity, content, etc. Typical web-based CYA stuff.
Viewable source is a compilation option in flex applications (example: http://examples.adobe.com/flex2/inproduct/sdk/flex store/flexstore.html right click to view source). The beauty of Flex / flash is that it's contained in it's own "cross platform" VM, making it totally independent of the browser. I would think that any tight integration into any browser would be a poor move for adobe/flex/flash.
Clarification:
You can HACK FB2 to run under Linux, but it does not have any native support (no installer, no technical support). We recently had a meeting with the Flex team at my company and their view is that Linux does not represent the majority of their market, and at the time they were here they expressed no immediate interest in moving toward a Linux-supported product.
I really wish they'd extend the open-source movement to FB2 as well because quite honestly -- it sucks. It's a severe memory hog, it is lacking several key bits of functionality like automatic code formatting for ActionScript and MXML, no built-in support for refactoring, and is a pain to get working with relatively-pathed library projects.

FYI, Linux is getting native 64-bit support of FP10 before Windows and Mac. http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/

I for one welcome our microbe overlords.

Agreed. This isn't news. It's always been their intention, they just couldn't get it in for the v1 release (something that was admitted by them).

Similarly, Mormon garments are another item that seem to take advantage of this program, so it's not exactly unheard of. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_garment/
Without competing standards new innovations and price wars would never happen. Wars like these are only to the benefit of the consumer...

Well, it's living up to at least one of it's namesakes.
