    I'd say there's an empirical way of testing this. Do the Taiwanese pay taxes to the mainland government, are mainland government laws enforced in Taiwan? No, in both cases. Has Taiwan managed to maintain this state of affairs for a reasonable period of time? Yes. Then Taiwan has earnt its right not to be called a province.
    Does Hong Kong or Tibet pay taxes to the mainland government? Are mainland government laws enforced in Hong Kong or Tibet? No in both cases (IIRC). Have they managed to maintain this state of affairs for a reasonable period of time? Yes. But they certainly are considered part of China.

    It's Microsoft's internal versioning system for Office. Office 2003 was Office 11, Office XP was Office 10. these names are rarely used, except, for instance, as the name for the Program Files folder (at least in Office XP).

    The "99.9% uptime is expected" suggests a fixation with Windows NT on flaky servers. 99.9% equates to 876 hours of outage a year. Quite frankly the requirement for 99.9% availability suggests the equirer does not know what they are talking about.
    That's not right... 99.9% uptime means 1/1000 of the time is outage. 1/1000 is less than 1/365, so 99.9% uptime is less than 24 hours a year, not 876. It's actually somewhere around 8. I suppose you meant 8.76 hours of outage?

    M$ is instead adding in full-screen emiti-blips (if I wanted a program to take over my whole screen when I'm working on something else, I would run a game.. It's happened before... typing in my credit card number and a MSN window takes focus... good thing I don't look at the keyboard when I type).
    You know, you can turn that off in options... Just uncheck "Play Winks automatically" and "Allow me to send and receive Nudges."

    These students came to a diverging path... and instead of taking the high road and telling someone about fixing the security hole, they chose to abuse it.
    They did? On their website, cutusabreak.org, the following text seems to suggest otherwise.
    Unfortunately our program did not allow for the temporary suspension of computer privileges. Some kids who had trouble resisting temptation tried to turn in their laptops and were forced by the administration to take them back. And the administration still seems to prefer the option of felony charges, and intimidation over the simple withdrawal of computer privileges.

    The Bill of Rights is part of the Constitution. The Bill of Rights is the first ten amendments to the Constitution. To amend is to change, and amendments are basically changes to the Constitution. And, by definition, changes to the Constitution are considered part of the Constitution.

    Using MSN Messenger 7.0 Beta with Firefox 1.06 as the default browser, links from friends will open in a new tab in Firefox (which is what it's set to do).

    18.5 seconds? A record for calculating pi? My computer can calculate pi in less than a second, simply by typing http://www.solidz.com/pi/pi-1million.php into my web browser and pressing Enter.

I mean, if more people are dying from escaped murderers than innocent people are being executed, I could see your point, but do you have any evidence that supports this?     The ones that actually wanted to free the slaves were called "Radical Republicans", 'radical' meaning 'very liberal'. Lincoln himself only freed the slaves because it'd give him an edge in winning the Civil War.

    Still don't believe me? Try going to UB's Directory. You can do wildcard searchs. Search by last name, type in "a*". Repeat for all 26 letters of the alphabet.
    After going to UB's directory, it appears that simply searching for "*" would work, too. You can get everyone's information simply by searching once, instead of 26 times.

    because

    is the same as

    .

    They are >1% of the audience, and serves them right. This doesn't harm them at all, just displays a message at the top of the screen.
    That's just it: it is harmful, as now they're getting yelled at for something they didn't do.
    If they want to pretend to be IE, then that means they want to see messages that IE users see. Why else would they set their user-agent to IE? In fact, my current script tells Opera users set to masquerade as IE: "You are using Microsoft Internet Explorer. This is a very buggy browser, [...]. Well, actually, you're using Opera, but since you're masquerading as IE, I thought that meant you wanted to see this."
    Moreover, consider the user who has no choice about what browser they use.
    That's exactly why it's only a message telling users to switch, instead of blocking the whole site off from IE. The user who has no choice about what browser they use can just skip that message.
