My solution is Pantera. No matter what the neighbors are playing, Pantera is louder. "Fucking Hostile" is over in under three minutes, and by that time 12 other neighbors have already called the cops or taken up arms themselves.
If you did that to me, I'd stop the music, join the torch-and-pitchfork mob and point them to your house.
It isn't that bad. We have similar law here in Finland. That part has only ever been applied once: When Finland's largest bit torrent tracker was busted a few years ago. The people who ran it got charged with criminal charges.
That doesn't mean it's a good law. At most it indicates a sane legal system.
I call bullshit. Americans are Ubermensch now? Is it your world famous intelligence? You work 16 hours a day, and take no sick leaves until they force you?
Having something like this for an older parent might be all they need and might make their computer use more efficient. For those of us like me... I still want to be able to do everything and never have it change... most of "us" realize we're a bit too picky at times.
The two things I need is a decent taskbar and Alt+F2 for "Run...". This one has it, so it's perfect.
It's becoming increasingly clear that X11 will never be hacked into a usable local display option. The open source community badly needs something more desktop centric.
Seconded.
It would be refreshing to have the drivers in the kernel, where they belong.
We'd need some serious backwards compatibility, though.
HINT: The average user won't notice things like 5 or 10 second faster boot times, or a slightly snappier response time. Or even a faster installation.
Gentoo boots in about 25 seconds, while all kinds of weird text floats through the screen.
Meanwhile, on the same machine, Vista takes more than 40 seconds to actually show the boot screen. Before that, it's blank. First time I turned it on, I thought I have to bring it back to the store. (The laptop came with Vista preinstalled.)
Though I remember when XP came out people screamed (for over a year) "bloatware" "Suckware"....and now it is being touted as an great OS.
It's still bloated, and it still sucks, even though they fixed a lot of things during the years. (And the average computer it's installed on has at least twice the horsepower).
On the other hand, I use wikipedia to get information all the time and it hardly ever seems to be an actual problem.
Of course. The page itself always looks consistent. But if you check back in 5 minutes, you might be surprised.
And free beer for everyone! And ponies!
And blackjack! And hookers! In fact, forget the nonexclusive system of financial incentive!
Whoosh.
That form is older than I am, and it still works perfectly.

Which is proven not to be the case in the US.
worker productivity

If you ask me, you're just better unionized.
This is because we've been buying on credit.
You still are.
and immigrant... those without cable, without a computer, sometimes with poor literacy. Not the senior citizens.
So you say Arnold can't afford a decent TV?

nothing in the summary connects to the real world at all.
It's always been like that. But this time, neither does TFA.
I'd say the cause is a bit more complex than just, "this kid's bad".
I didn't say that. All I tried to say was that it's not very helpful to blame guns, video games, Santa Claus, whatever.
Ah, a fellow gentooer. Are you done compiling yet?
What if you took an Ubuntu release from about the same time period as that Windows system was released?
Then it's a hundred times. Did those default to give every user unlimited sudo?

With virus software installed on Windows 7 ubuntu would kill it even more.
I'm not sure this counts as killing. I mean, 73 seconds for booting?
Hands up everyone who got it down to less than 30, any distro.
I'm a linux user but this story is anything but serious benchmarking.
Yeah, they left out almost all distros.
No.
You misspelled "Fuck you."
I think the availability of firearms is allegedly the cause for the school shootings, not just video games.
No. That kid who shot people. He was the cause.
Don't worry, someone will certainly use the map for CS.
Hmmm. Just imagine the look on your coworkers' face when you whip out an AK-47 when you hear a fire alarm.
video games are dangerous!
How are we supposed to ban them now?

But now we're comparing it to Vista.
Adults should be free to buy whatever drugs they want. Banishing marijuana and LSD is just oppression by another name.
I know you're trolling, but... Exactly.
I, as an adult, should have the right to do whatever I want to my body chemistry. Besides, cigarettes and alcohol are legal too.
Slashdot is for my fun time.
That's a weird sense of fun. The rest of us are here because we're bored at work.
Could ye at least try for some *consistency* in your views?
We're not the Borg.
