    On the other hand, I use wikipedia to get information all the time and it hardly ever seems to be an actual problem.

    Of course. The page itself always looks consistent. But if you check back in 5 minutes, you might be surprised.

    My solution is Pantera. No matter what the neighbors are playing, Pantera is louder. "Fucking Hostile" is over in under three minutes, and by that time 12 other neighbors have already called the cops or taken up arms themselves.

    If you did that to me, I'd stop the music, join the torch-and-pitchfork mob and point them to your house.

    It isn't that bad. We have similar law here in Finland. That part has only ever been applied once: When Finland's largest bit torrent tracker was busted a few years ago. The people who ran it got charged with criminal charges.

    That doesn't mean it's a good law. At most it indicates a sane legal system.

    Which is proven not to be the case in the US.

    Having something like this for an older parent might be all they need and might make their computer use more efficient. For those of us like me... I still want to be able to do everything and never have it change... most of "us" realize we're a bit too picky at times.

    The two things I need is a decent taskbar and Alt+F2 for "Run...". This one has it, so it's perfect.

    It's becoming increasingly clear that X11 will never be hacked into a usable local display option. The open source community badly needs something more desktop centric.

    Seconded.

    It would be refreshing to have the drivers in the kernel, where they belong.

    We'd need some serious backwards compatibility, though.

    HINT: The average user won't notice things like 5 or 10 second faster boot times, or a slightly snappier response time. Or even a faster installation.

    Gentoo boots in about 25 seconds, while all kinds of weird text floats through the screen.

    Meanwhile, on the same machine, Vista takes more than 40 seconds to actually show the boot screen. Before that, it's blank. First time I turned it on, I thought I have to bring it back to the store. (The laptop came with Vista preinstalled.)

    With virus software installed on Windows 7 ubuntu would kill it even more.

    I'm not sure this counts as killing. I mean, 73 seconds for booting?
    Hands up everyone who got it down to less than 30, any distro.

    Though I remember when XP came out people screamed (for over a year) "bloatware" "Suckware"....and now it is being touted as an great OS.

    It's still bloated, and it still sucks, even though they fixed a lot of things during the years. (And the average computer it's installed on has at least twice the horsepower).

    But now we're comparing it to Vista.
