I can see the fnords. Seriously, there's a lot of FUD going around out there. If you want to be able to track of your young child with GPS, that's fine. But don't let it substitute for your kid being responsible for giving you a call later on to let you know what they're up to when they aren't following the usual plan. Remember, unless you're implanting the tracking device, it's not very reliable. So don't let GPS be a cure to some over zealous concern.

Interesting that he would make that point when the story was really quite lacking as far as Trek stories go. There was excessive use of comic relief and old Trek references in attempt to cover up the mediocre plot.

I would like to know how complex of a system you are designing with this methodology. No flow planning? No predefined input/output? No figuring out how your design will efficiently fulfill software requirements? Planning isn't all about rituals, though it's well known that doing something to focus your thoughts helps get the juices flowing. Planning is about figuring out how to not waste your time or money, and being able to effectively divide out work if deadlines are pressing in.

Fair enough. Though I tend to view Dell's marketing campaign (and most marketing campaign) as gender generic. The only reason that Dell's marketing might come off as targeting males is because men are known to have a higher interest in computer related fields right now. That doesn't mean that it's targeting males. I'm looking at this ad campaign being more about targeting consumers who are typically not interested in computers beyond e-mail and myspace. Women who are already savvy will not be impacted and were already being served.

We either continue on the self destructive road we are on, or we legalize it and make it very expensive. The "ideal" option to you and I isn't the ideal option to our neighbors down the street.

No it wouldn't people take pictures all the time. I'm servicing an ATM openly and in public. Why would I find it suspicious? What they hell is going on in the world where we think anyone taking a picture is suspicious? Refusing to talk to someone should not be enough to consider someone to be suspicious. I avoid talking to people all the time because honestly, I don't have time for it. With the hours I work, every free minute is precious to me.

Whether or not he was asked to leave is the one key thing I would like to know about. I'm sure his story has been filtered for his benefit at least to some degree. But even if he was being snarky, nothing in it warrants detainment. However, if at any point he was requested to leave, and he refused, then he doesn't have much of a case to complain here. He wasn't on public property, however, he was in public space (according to the government's opinion of what public space is, no matter how I may disagree). In public space the expectation of privacy is little to none. You can take pictures all you want, so long as you don't record sound (since there could be a case made for wiretapping).
