Selling them to governments sounds scary, selling them to private citizens sounds scary. It's a shame we live in a world where such wonderful technology (there are other GOOD should be obvious uses for things such as this) seems scary no matter who you give it to unless it's Batman.

Maybe we should just all get a pair and beat on each other until we get bored and move on to something better, or resort to bio/chem/nuclear warfare!

You can filter a range of things, depending on the router. Anything from content filtering, website black listing (or white listing), or even only allowing certain computers to connect at certain times.

There are a lot of options, but of course if you never take the time to find what you do not know about, you'll most likely never find out about it.

"How else do high-tech products keep improving other than by continual innovation meriting patent protection?!" - Patent Half

I think all patents do is grant a temporary control over a certain field of creation. If we were to eliminate or limit patents then that means in order to be #1 seller, your product has to be the best and decently priced. Of course, there's also marketing in there but that's a whole other subject.

What I'm trying to say is that Company A makes zig, Company B makes ziglar, a remarkably similar product which may be cheaper and maybe even better. If it's better and cheaper, then hey! How does Company A keep up? They make Zigziglar.

Of course there would need to be some restrictions, but nothing so bizarre as what we have today. This could, of course, be achieved through a more human process than just filling out forms and wording everything a certain way as to persuade different people. But hey, what do I know? I'm not an economist, professional engineer, or a marketer.

  4. Re:Microsoft acts like a kid. on Vista To Be Updated Without Reboots · · Score: 4, Informative

As much as we'd like some software companies to just update our current products it's unlikely that it'll happen. For you see, giving updates for free is not where the money is at, especially when you have an astronomical user base.

It's that way with a lot of things, for example I have a Wireless card that was sold AFTER the release of WPA but its drivers were never updated to work with WPA because they decided to abandon a perfectly fine card. If you contact the company they'll admit it no problem, they know they can get away with it and make even more money by doing something else.

For a lot of companies money comes before security. Unfortunately, thanks to a large ignorant user base (not everyone, but the majority), this is a perfectly fine business model for them.

The Anime sub-culture of the US is interesting in that it seems to often times follow certain trends and when something is popular you can just import it and sell it for a lot more than you usually would a normal DVD.

There's also the fact that a lot of anime sales are online which can be on demand as well, it's just a safer business I think than producing large numbers of an item and hoping they all sell.

Most people would just consider this to be garbage and junk it, and if you brought this in for service where I work, I would agree with you.

I think it's kind of lame when people just discard computers, there's a lot you could do with them aside from throwing them in the dumpster. You could take them to a GoodWill/Habitat For Humanity/Whatever, recycle them, or even use them for something trivial. There are still a lot of people out there who don't have a computer.

I got so fed up with the bull shit of being jumped (I was a minority in the school and was often alienated) I just started to fight back. School is kind of like prison now, you beat someone up on the first day and they'll respect you. If you don't beat someone up on the first day, someone will beat you up and you'll be suspended regardless!

It upsets me with what's happening to what used to be a fine country. What's worse is 90% of the people don't seem to care until it's too late.
