The funny thing is that we read Animal Farm in 9th grade, and I was the only person in the room who caught that it wasn't about a farm. The teacher was a person in the room. Maybe these books are banned because nobody smart enough to understand them goes into teaching.

To repeat my answer when a college professor asked me "Who's teaching these things, anyhow?": "Those who can't."

Do you realize how many candidates would have to be present to count the votes in a typical US election? In a state like California with lots of candidates for each position in that state as well as some 130 electors for the presidency up for selection, not to mention write-in votes and so forth, this is just a bad idea.

You have to understand that, here in the US, we've been doing elections for real for over 200 years and have run a country that way just fine. We started this practice as a result of not liking the way the UK runs things - why would we want to go back to it now? (One notable exception: common law. Thanks! :)

I'd have the miniature iBook or PowerBook if it had a better pointer device. I am more accurate and faster with an e-Clit (nipple stick, trackpoint, whatever you call it; I prefer the most politically incorrect term whenever possible), and they are more reliable and less in-the-way than trackpads to boot. Additionally, they require the least finger movement of any pointing device.

And if you say anything about "just use an external mouse", that doesn't work when you're actually using it as a laptop, and it's inconvenient as hell. If I wanted a portable desktop, I'd get one. But I don't, I want a laptop computer that is entirely self-contained.

I have pretty good night vision for a nearly-blind guy, and I also have extremely fast recovery from bright lights when it's dark out. Was this affected in any way for you?

I don't think there's any activity that is more enjoyable with contact lenses than without, and there are very few where glasses are better than not (shooting at the range or chemistry lab are examples where your permanent eye protection can be handy), so I'm excited to get this done in, hopefully, about 4 years. Thanks for the encouraging report.

So far, I think the overall vote, if you leave out people who either have good vision to begin with or who never do anything but stare into a computer screen, is to get the surgery. :)
