read up on the Barnes & Nobel issue adn you will see that Microsoft is not stating what patents are infringing and goes into massive amounts of trickery to try and get the other party to sign an NDA binding them not to tell what's going on. This is a full on abuse of the patent system and a complete leverage of money and power to force vendors into giving Microsoft money and some control of their product.
yo Lemming, bull crap. This line, "the full integration of social media is handy" and this one too, "the clean interface that presents everything I need to know at a glance." just does not sound like what someone would write who's not in marketing. why are you Microserf's so twisted over Apple and think everything is about Apple?
read the article and it appears he had hardware problems with the Android phone he had and as he stated at the end of his post, he just wanted the phone to make calls, do email, and a tad of browsing without locking up. Sounds like he didn't pick his phone model very well and confuses Android with a phone(hardware).
and since most think that one counter example is proof of something being incorrect, my Android phone has been making phone calls, getting and sending emails and even browsing the web for a long time.
I've heard this over and over again and usually from utility company representatives and it's a waste of time, money and effort. I think it's more of a public relations thing than anything else since there are not enough electric cars on the market or projected to make a difference.
Why do you never read or hear anyone mention the number if vehicles required to have enough capacity to be meaningful? It's a waste of time and if anything just another way Utility companies to get funding from Public Utility Commissions, etc.
In the mean time, all they have to do is make sure the charge plug allows power flow in both directions. Everything else can be added to the grid tied inverter so nothing has to be done to the car system at all.
They talk about the releasing of hydrogen from the storage mechanism. But, there's one catch and that is that it currently requires platinum and it isn't cheap. So all they have to do is find another material which works besides platinum. that's all.
exactly, it's stored already in lots of places. It's both the storage and releasing of the hydrogen which is needed. I'll now go back to TFA and see if they address or it's another waste of a few million.
I don't know about you but our last half dozen or so home computer purchases have been laptops and not white box format PCs. While this may help Microsoft protect their system to some extent it also has the benefit to Microsoft of possibly locking out the use of any other OS on the hardware. There is valid concern and anyone who thinks we should wait to see what hits the market is not thinking about their rights to use the hardware or how dificult it is getting the horses back into the barn. Many here don't run Windows or Microsoft software on the hardware even if the devices once came with it pre-loaded.
yes they are. it'll go like this; 'ok, we now have Windows 7 booting so how do we stop them from booting Linux'. Have you not read any of the court released emails of how Microsoft operates to keep their market position?
is it something spectacular or the opposite. From a company which released beta's like handing our Halloween candy they sure seem to have move to the paranoid side.
exactly. regarding Dell and profit margins, I'd heard somewhere that Dell's marketing deals with Microsoft alone result in close to 20% of their profits.
read up on the Barnes and Nobel threats and you'll see how they operate. B&N told MS to tell them what patents, MS said that's proprietary information, B&N said WTF patents are public via the PTO tell us what patents, MS says only if you sign an NDA, B&N said we don't need an NDA to discuss public information, etc etc. B&N have some real lawyers while the others are cowering clueless idiots IMO. It probably helps that B&N has no connections with MS licensing since they've never sold PCs or PC software and many of the others have already been hooked by MS lawyers for other things.
they will still pay Microsoft but don't want their software. I don't think I've read one story where these licensing fees were mention and it was brought up why they would still pay to use Linux instead of paying to use Windows.
And the income from the Linux licensing deals is still in the noise level compared to the losses of say BING, Windows Phone, and even XBox.
they tried to do a light OS and failed so they're fallling back on what the know has worked for them on the desktop.
will be interesting to see how they handle developers. should they port everything to GeoMetro so it runs on everything poorly or should the do different development for different devices. Microsoft will try to say something close to write once, run everywhere.
turn off images and javascript while you're at it to make sure you can reboot quicker.
So what exactly is Windows 8? Is it a phone OS, a tablet OS, a netbook OS, a desktop OS, or a server OS? ans: it's all of them at different times and depending on what software you install and run and based on what you're doing at the moment.
how many clicks is it going to take you to get that page loaded with the plugin you just realized you need to see something on the page?
"push a button"? really. Homie don't think so. I'm reminded of when Microsoft said "kill the baby" in regards to Netscape and then told the court that forcing all Windows OEMs to install Internet Explorer was not anti-competitive because you can download Netscape Navigator over the dialup network.
Windows 8 and it's GeoMetro user interface and MS app store are yet another MS tool to lock you into a world of 100% MS software 100% of the time. IMO
there are still areas of HTML5 which vendors would not agree on a patent license free technology so vendors can implement and require their own proprietary software and HTML5 video is one of those areas. So guess what video coded Microsoft will be using? Yes, it will be their own and another guess what, they have been trying to eliminate Flash from the market for a few years now. It's been a thorn in their side that Adobe has been getting pre-loaded on just as many computers as Windows(ie almost every computer reseller has a deal with Adobe to load its software too ).
So it's really no surprise they too are trying to push Flash aside.
this is what they learned from the Microsoft Linux Lab. It takes Microsoft about 10 years to figure stuff out and in the mean time, they just use marketing material like "Windows Server 8 is a Radical Departure From Previous Releases". There are so many PHB's who dictate technology based on this crap it's probably worth 30% of their revenue.
lol. I was going to say something about it being compact but I just read that Windows 8 is officially stated to run on hardware which currently runs Windows 7. so it's not really compact but it will be slow on low end CPU's an small memory amounts.
Because Microsoft software has not been compared enough times to the auto industry.
I'm wondering if this 'Best Windows Ever'-tm is destined to be the Metro Round-about with no usable inlets or outlets. Or just a tiny funny thing some people use like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy8wxQ4aJo8
seriously? ok, how about "selling" Windows XP to them for next to nothing and with it a "marketing" deal which pays them more than the cost of Windows? How about a "service" deal where Microsoft pays for all the hardware driver design costs and any customer support costs? There are probably thousands of ways ASUS had various costs doing the netbook development, sales, and distribution so any of them could be used to "help" ASUS come back to Windows.
don't just tell me what NDA's are, read the shit MS did to try and get B&N to sign and NDA just to see the patents
