  1. Linux is Linux on Choose Your Side On the Linux Divide · · Score: 1

No it didn't. Android did. GNU/Linux is still pretty irrelevant outside of cheap servers

I beg to differ. It even has the largest growth in under $300 laptops. https://www.google.com/chrome/...

You seem to bogged down some crazy definition. When whether you are using a chromebook, an Android phone, or Ubuntu/Debian you have a shitload of companies like Samsuing and Google who now as of 2013 are top ten contributers to Linux.

Get over it Linux won. It is why Microsoft is irrelevant outside the Desktop xxx

  2. Not in this instance on Choose Your Side On the Linux Divide · · Score: 2

And THAT pretty much sums up what has always held Linux back (and probably always will).

Except this is not really a problem with the exception of Slackware and Gentoo two obvious holdouts ...and if you use those distributions you know why.(Go on read the wikipedia on systemd it has some great quotes).

all these distros use systemd - Arch Linux, CoreOS, Debian GNU/Linux(Default for Debian 8 "jessie"),Fedora, Frugalware Linux, Mageia, NixOS, openSUSE,
Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Sabayon, Ubuntu(Coming). The deal is done.

Oh FYI Linux overtook windows back in 2013 is quite well know.

So blue ray is slightly cheaper per GB for me. I suspect in bulk the differences are bigger.

  4. Google is Early; Rich; Everywhere on YouTube Music Subscription Details Leak · · Score: 2

Sorry google, you missed the bus on the music thing.

Except the reverse is true. Music subscriptions are not on most peoples radar. Google hold a dominant position in the largest OS in the world on the most popular music devices in the world, and ownes the largest (Music) Video Site (in fact that is the whole point about the indie artist dispute) on the most used music player in the world. It is a market of few large players, and a large player like Google is eg. Microsoft with Xbox.

The only real question is how do they do it without bringing into question antitrust concerns.

...are you kidding me. Chrome the desktop version has become the one to follow even by Firefox own incredible debut, but its mobile interface it truly a thing of great beauty. In fact the reality is Google bland web page interface is one of the reasons it became a dominate search engine. Even their older interfaces are functional I bought a clone of the now retired "News & Weather" app simply because it was so useful. The only exceptions are the surprisingly awful Finance Application on Android and the Images Google mobile version which is missing basic functionality...but these are exceptions to the rule.

No your incredible massacring of figures is grossly misleading. Ironically iPad sales and I suspect other high end tablets are failing. In context of this article and your post. It highlight why Microsoft foolishly in my opinion are not releasing a good value mini...albeit making windows free as in anti-user so others manufactures can. Small tablets and Phablets lets be honest tablets with phone functionality are growing substantially in fact Google(Nexus 6) and Apple(iPhone 6) are set to launch there own in 3.2.1...The minor raise in windows 8 comes from throwing its XP users under a bus without a lifeline. I am not sure if history will treat this as good idea retrospectively...especially with the growth in the chromebook market. It may satisfy investors but...

You may think the tablet delivers...but the rest of us(as in the world) don't and it is not for the massive investment on Microsoft's part...this is not the 1st generation its the 3rd and by every measure a failure. Perhaps they should get back to being a software company...the thing its monopoly matters in.

There is no top end or bottom end...there is just a market for smartphones it is why we are discussing a Chinese branded(not just made in China like the iphone). The proof is we are in an article discussing a phone company as the new Apple...at a fraction of the price ...with more premium features.

Google cannot eject Samsung from the Android market. In fact quite the opposite Google for mow is reliant on Samsung. In fact tomorrow Samsung could produce an Android phone without Google like Amazon and Microsoft...

iPad sales only are slowing. As we continue to say there is no high end low end of the the market...just the market, and Apple have simply priced themselves out of it. Tablets continue to sell very well. If we include the new phablet market..then even faster than ever.

The old model model was so effective at crushing everyone, was so trivial to outmanoeuvre by Google who are more nimbler/cheaper/OS friendly/ and cant be bullied or bribed, and is a better partner than someone who is your *direct* competitor, and charges you for the privilege.

If Microsoft had created a lightweight OS,platform independent tools and split up, been License agnostic, and been innovation hungry, we wouldn't be in a discussion where Samsung is not interested in paying "in kind" for for Windows Phone licenses it doesn't want to use.

The irony of your post is you don't understand the $ is your Micro$oft, Vista 9(sic) or Windows 8.X whatever is not only a massive success (from revenue not technical perspective) it has turned back its plummeting sales....by throwing its current (XP) customers under the bus....classic Microsoft.

  21. Summery header is a lie. It is not about Google. on Do Apple and Google Sabotage Older Phones? What the Graphs Don't Show · · Score: -1

The article is about Apple and particularly iPhones perceivably slowing down, as older hardware struggle with the latest versions of iOS. This has nothing to do with conspiracy. It is simply about Apples misguided attempt to pretend to have a product line, by selling older versions of its products to differentiate. It creates a crazy situation like Google selling the Moto E 540 x 960 pixels, 4.3 inches; 1 GB RAM; Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 and Apple selling 640 x 960 pixels, 3.5 inches; 512 MB RAM; 1 GHz Cortex-A8. They do this because they want to push consumers to the latest phones. Google on the other hand want everyone on there latest of OS which is why they are working on Project Butter and Project Svelte to optimize hardware.

Is not so much evil as Apple simply do not do software well.

The iPad mini is a lot better for books, but unlike its big brother is unattractive compared to the opposition (Android on Small tablets...Large Phones and ebooks), and it has nothing in the Phablet form factor.

The iPad has lost momentum already, even though the tablet market continues to grow. IDC's Latest figures http://www.businesswire.com/ne...
