I know you're probably joking, but if you're upgrading (since I'm not sure what you have now) at the very least make sure you get a mobo with AGP 8X and a video card that makes use of it.
I went from an i845D board(AGP 4X) and Radeon 9500Pro to a i865PE (AGP 8X), everything else the same, and I was pleasantly surprised at the difference. Current games 8X vs 4X makes no difference, but it seems the next generation will make use of that bandwidth just fine.
You're right that in the face of overworked parents the gov't might have to come help. But why can't they come help by making it so the parents don't have to be overworked? I'm not offering solutions just suggestions.
And my question is, what were these kids doing that was so bad that they had to shut them down like this? Were grades falling? Was the intellect of the future dying?
You make a good point, all they were doing was playing games, that's a world better than hanging out on a street corner drinking and doing drugs. Althought that has its moments.::)
I thought the same exact thing. Then I remembered oh wait I live in the US, same place that now has the Terminator as a major political entity.
It really is disturbing. "Huge Terrorist bombing in Turkey, BUT who cares! Jacko is wacking off lil boys again!"
Made me really sick to my stomach. I guess if it's not 3000 people and happening in our country Bin Laden doesn't matter worth a shit. I'm sure some families in Turkey are glad their country is allied with the United States right now.
You are turning this into a political bitch fight when it doesn't have to be.
You have no evidence that this guy has any motive in using Iraq other than it is on everyone's mind. And when he thought disaster area that's what popped up first.
Maybe he doesn't know that the internet would be up and running better now than it was then. Maybe he thinks Iraq was destroyed by Iraqis after the war ended.
So how bout instead of running inside yelling "LIBERALS" locking the doors and peeking out the curtains. You could instead dig up some info on the reconstruction of Iraq's information backbone and post some links. I know they're out there.
It would help educate yourself as well since you don't know for a fact what the state of Iraq's internet is.
Everyone wins in that scenario. And no one has to draw conclusions like the one you did, going from "how bad iraq is destroyed" to '"Saddam Hussein was a great man, and I liked pre war Iraq!"'
You make a good point, it's the older family machines that could really benefit from a Linux install. I know one person in particular that could use it. Wait, damn, scratch that, she'll never let go of AOL.
People with new computers will be happy with XP, they certainly didn't drop a $1000 or whatever on a new box not to be able to do everything and anything with it. And if it is a new box and they're novice users, say something goes wrong, Tech Support will definitely hangup when they realize it's not XP on the machine.
For those of you who don't know, the 1% challenge involves avoiding all extra energy tanks/power bombs/missle upgrades, except the 1 that you absolutely have to go through to get to the next area.
Agreed. I'm sorry but last I checked it wasn't the Fellowship of the Ring Screenplay by JRR Tolkien.
So many people get their panties in a bunch cause it's not verbatim and some things were changed, removed, added.
Personally I can't think of anyone other than Jackson I would want to do these movies. So far he gets a A+++ and another + is coming for him after i watch the TT: Extended.
I don't know about millions, but I've talked to a couple of people who have deleted all their music before I explained to them sharing.
You have to understand 95% of people using Kazaa and such have Zero idea what happens. All they know is that they can get free music and now people are getting sued.
where else can you post completely clueless questions and be virtually guaranteed to get an intelligent response from at least two people with PhDs in semiconductor physics?
Included in this great package are at least a dozen unintelligent responses coming from people who think they have PHD's in BS.
I don't know what benchmarks you refer to but please check out the hardocp review. They actually give you graphs of in game performance rather than crap like 3dMark2003. Last I checked I didn't play benchmarks.
Please show me these benchmarks where the 5700 "utterly destroys the 9600XT" I really don't care one way or the other as long as I get the best deal.
I'm just filling everyone who doesn't keep up with hardware in here.
The 5700 and the 9600XT perform very closely. The 9600XT gets you HL2 and until it is released ATI has worked a deal with valve to give you all previrous Valve products through Steam. Now I've seen people bitch "who cares it's all old games" You know they could've just said "tough shit blame the hacker" Either way you get the $50 HL2 game when it comes out, so factor that into the $200 price.
Neither is a bad buy for $200 but in my mind the 9600XT is the clear winner.
The 9600XT comes with a free copy of HL2. So that's $50 righty there.
They are practically neck in neck in real world performance so I guess it's your call. I know which one I would pick though. $200 and HL2 or $200 and no HL2.... hmmmm tough one.
I'm pretty sure Battlefield isn't based on Q3's engine. IIRC it's a totally new one made by EA.
Call of Duty on the other hand is based on a heavily modified Q3 engine.
I know you're probably joking, but if you're upgrading (since I'm not sure what you have now) at the very least make sure you get a mobo with AGP 8X and a video card that makes use of it.

Although I haven't played any of these games, if you like crafting, Dark Age of Camelot might be good for you.
Can you explain why you bought two copies of these games?
You're can't just make a new account if you quit?
This is the best news yet!
Go back to your dial-up mere mortals. Leave us all the more bandwith to download the 1,001 Linux distro ISO's out there.
Of course they could just ya know, turn the power off too.
You are turning this into a political bitch fight when it doesn't have to be.

I didn't mean to post off topic, it was in response to the grandparent post which in turn discussed "the masses"
Enterprise is a totally different animal and while I can see users migrating to linux on their home boxes if work uses it, that's a small number.
I totally agree, unfortunately when users buy their Dell's, Gateway's etc, the cost is "invisible"
The best thing to do is exactly what you did, educate people and hope next time they do opt-out of having an OS installed.
Only time will tell.
You make a good point, it's the older family machines that could really benefit from a Linux install. I know one person in particular that could use it. Wait, damn, scratch that, she'll never let go of AOL.

That's your support time. You can see the benefit in going to Linux, but can your "family"?
You'd still need to update and patch a linux desktop, and deal with SPAM.
For popups if you installed Mozilla or Netscape on your "family" PC's that would take care of popups. That's not something Linux would solve.
So you'd save yourself the hassle of updating the anti-virus software and your "family" would have to learn to deal with Linux. Fair tradeoff?
I was just responding to the grandparent post which was talking bout "the masses"
Enterprise cost certainly does matter, I don't know enough about the cost of migrating to linux from windows etc though to comment.
Unfortunately they don't know WTF you're talking about nor do they care.
Honestly why would someone running XP Home/Pro migrate to linux?
There has to be a killer reason to switch, maybe someone hit by one of the worms lately might, but that's still a minority of home users.
For those of you who don't know, the 1% challenge involves avoiding all extra energy tanks/power bombs/missle upgrades, except the 1 that you absolutely have to go through to get to the next area.
::)
Hence the 1 item out of 100 you need to get, 1%
I think it's impossible personally
That's insane, of course I'm just on my first run through, but I've only gotten 26% in like 5 hours.
Of course I'm actually spending a good deal of time running around enjoying exploring the world for the first time.
I think the 1% challange for Metroid Fusion on GBA is harder.
Great game btw, worth it for anyone who enjoys video games. Nintendo might take a long time to finish games, but they certainly do them right.
Agreed. I'm sorry but last I checked it wasn't the Fellowship of the Ring Screenplay by JRR Tolkien.

Of course this thing will be great to put in your pocket for easy carrying.
Oh wait, no it wouldn't.
Heh I like what the have it listed as on SOHO's website.
X Whatever!

I'm pretty sure they've done 3.4, 3.5, 3.6
::)
But yes they did release 3.7, I'm running them right now.
Actually I don't know where you get your info, but,
right from ATI
Also bestbuy has the coupon for HL2 on ALL ATI cards now check here for a good deal

Uh, owning the mid-range market with the 5700? Not really, it costs $200 which competes with the $200 ATI 9600XT.
