Is when the FSCK did music become as vital to life as food, water, shelter, clothing?
I'll admit I'm not the most musically inclined. And maybe it's just the MTV marketting, but it seems most lives would end should they not be able to get CD's/MP3's of music to listen to 24/7.
Guess it's better than having a conversation with another person.
You are free to scan them, if they have documents in shared folders well, that's like laying them all out on your front lawn. You can take all the info, read it absorb it. But if you absorb a CC# and use it? Well that's illegal.
The server with the passwd file accessible is strange. Is it just sitting there on www.somecompany.com/passwd ? Or is this www.somecompany.com/cgi/crappyscript?allyourpw=min e ?
I would think that it would require a concious act to get the passwd the second way. It would be like going up to a door to a building, you know it's supposed to be locked, but if you giggle the lock just the right way you can get in. I think the court would find you guilty because you went through their security measures no matter how poor they were.
RIAA Strategist #1: Dude, I got it! Follow me here, we want all the money right? Ok so if we sue everyone now we get all the money for the next 25 years and not have to do a damn thing to get it! RIAA Strategist #2: Brilliant! But we'll have to make annoying pop music that will pacify the masses, we can't have any intelligent rebel music again like those damn 60's RIAA Strategist #1: Quite right, inform King Bush of your plans. RIAA Strategist #2: I'll order us a Pizza too.
Since we live in an open democracy we sacrifice a certain amount of privacy. Because these people are sharing files in a public place, and the RIAA tracked their activities on their own they can bring that evidence they have gathered to a court.
A gov't would have been required to get a warrant before tracking your activities.
They RIAA did not break into the person's computer, and broke no laws. The countersuit will hold little weight.
Now if she had her files on a private VPN that required authencation, the RIAA would have had to break into the system to gather the information, in which case I'm not sure how it would be ruled on.
I would love to see the rebirth of co-op. I actually thought that MOH had co-op (their definition is a bit different from mine) and bought it the other night only to find out it wasn't against the computer.
I gotta say one of the best game experiences was beating Doom 2 playing co-op with a friend. Why this option was abandoned I have no idea.
I for one am glad that there are some really good single player games. Or rather games that focus mainly on that experience. I've had enough deathmatch, I'm sure there will be some multiplayer included, but it's really not necessary.
I'm calling on the collective memory banks of/. to dig up a diagram I once saw that showed an extremely hilarious way to turn the telemarketting call into your own "telemarketting" question.
Going along the lines of giving a person the ability to change things... There's another comment about giving people too many choices. I think that's the catch, just how easy do you make it to customize your default desktop?
A low level user might want to change their background, but do you just have a dialog for changing the background? Or include it with a bunch of other display options? Then you got the high-level user who wants to change everything, window decorations, sounds, this that and the other thing. Striking that balance has got to be very difficult.
How bout a 10 question quiz the guage what level of desktop a user should start out with? Maybe one of the questions would be.
Do you read/.? A) f1r57 p05t!! B) What's/.? C) Only when at work. D) CowboyNeal does
We certainly can make things customizable/replaceable when starting with a default.
The thing is Linux does does not have a default. And that's his point. I sit someone down in front of Windows they recognize it. The goal is to sit someone down in front of linux and they'd go, "oh it's a linux machine" and know what to do. The problem is I take a dozen linux boxes and each one is vastly different. One runs KDE, one Gnome, one IceWM, etc.
That all said there will never be a default. Redhat will want to do it one way, Mandrake another, Knoppix another. So the entire discussion is moot. Linux will never be the desktop competition for MS. Redhat maybe, or Mandrake possibly.
What you'll hear is not, "oh this is Linux. I know it" Rather it will be "oh this is Redhat"
Guess the thick can't get too thick? You're saying you'd quit on your wife if she developed a drinking problem? Or somehow got addicted to pain killers? Or if she had a gambling problem?
Leaving her/him certainly isn't going to help them save themselves which is what they really need. This era has a problem with wimping out on tough times. They want all the goodness now and everyday, any interruptions are unacceptable.
So people who work on their cars shouldn't bother? They should be spending their time building their own cars from scratch?
I just don't understand why this guy is getting his panties in a bunch. Someone really needs to relax. You produced a good game, lots of people got it and now they're playing around with what they own. Not like there's only one universal copy of DOA that everyone in the world plays and any changes are made globally.
It's called a hobby. Some people mod cases, some mod cars, others robotics, and still other crazy's work to mod games. That's what we do.
I remember Popular Science(I think) doing a piece on an exoskeleton that would give soliders the ability to lift heavy objects etc. with ease. Not sure if this is the same.
Vietnam also took place during huge changes in the socio-politcal environment of the US. The entire time period was an explosion of change and strife. When your entire home life is being turned upside down how can you go off and fight a war?
How would things be now if we went into Vietnam? Since the war in Iraq started the American people have settled down. The world has settled down. I have not heard of millions marching in protest any more. Things have gone back to "normal".
Well, not really commercials, but some weird lil cartoons. Enjoy.

We should start a petition

Thank you, I just wasn't thinking of the right words to use in Google.
Gonna print it out and put it on my fridge.

Thanks in advance if anyone remembers this.
She probably put it as a phone number when filling in some form. That list was then sold to telemarketters. There's no way for them to know.
Theory: aliens
Evidence: Insider information.

That's what I figured. You'd be fine with a default as long as it didn't supersede the user's ability to tweak it if he/she wanted to. Right?
I totally agree, I just used your comment for a jumping off point really.
We certainly can make things customizable/replaceable when starting with a default.

And that's the way it is.
They are sexy. I can't imagine how much more sexy they'd be with a female astronomy grad student attached too :)
Best of luck to you two and your powerbook!!
Step 5: Profit
::)
No, but seriously can we laugh when the powerbook is worth $0 in 4 years
Physically abusive is different of course.
And you have to draw the line somewhere, but it seems some people draw the line after hardly a try.
If you're only going to be in it for the good times, don't even bother being in it cause it's not going to be all good times.

Hrmm, there are those 5" LCD's that you can get for PS2/Xbox, dunno if you can still output audio/video with that hooked up though.
::)
Investigate, I need an excuse to get an xbox (KOTOR)
Yes I recognize sigs much more often. I'd recognize names if they too were on the bottom of a person's comment.
Perhaps this should be done?
Only a true geek would actually write Mwahahahaha in a letter to a CEO. Open or not.
:)
Then the other references, "expect you to die" just cap it off. You can only wish to be half the ubergeek ESR is
Funny and serious stuff at the same time. Good times.

I remember Popular Science(I think) doing a piece on an exoskeleton that would give soliders the ability to lift heavy objects etc. with ease. Not sure if this is the same.
It might also result in:
1) The cluster committing suicide hoping that the next level of existence doesn't have 1337 |-|4>0rZ
or
2) Realize it is better for us, and well you know, go skynet on our weak flesh hides.
