To answer your question. System Restore had been offline since this kid used up so much space it had to turn itself off. I didn't think to check beforehand. (Assuming makes ass out of U and me:) The last restore point was way back in time.
And they were all just Critical fixes, no driver updates. Otherwise I would have just rolled back the driver.

Well there were no Driver Updates listed in these updates. These were all "Critical Updates".
And system restore is not always an option, it will turn off. This one must have been turned off awhile ago when he filled up his drive with crap(mp3's/games). It would have been nice to have that option.
But what does it matter? I've seen System Restore not work well just as often as does. It's great when it works, but it doesn't always.
My point was that with automagic updates and something breaks the average user is left confused and annoyed. MS has to try and protect themselves from nightmares like this, but are automatic updates it?
Lastly I know this is Slashdot, but please try and grow up. Your post could have simply been,
"Did you use System Restore? Or did it install a new driver? You know you could have used RollBack Driver in the control panel then"
I applied all critical fixes to a friend's computer. Suddenly his NIC was not recognized. Uninstalled all critical patches didn't bring it back. It works fine on a base install of XP.
But just imagine, you goto use your computer and boom, no more internet. Now you call your techie friend, he/she asks "What did you install recently?" Nothing that you know of, making both your lives that much more difficult.

The AI is far from same old same old, the physics is extremely far along. And the environments are freaking almost totally immersive.
UT2K3 was really the same ole same ole, but take a good look at the real next generation games (D3, DL2, FarCry) and you'll see what I'm talking about.
With Doom3 and HL2 coming out, I think the gaming industry is going to catch up just fine quite soon.
And while Xbox is said to be made for HDTV's I find that hard to believe. Mostly due to lack of power to drive games at high resolution, but also no one has HD tvs.
But HD sets are even coming down towards more peoples' price range recently. The Xbox2 will need all that extra power to fill those high resolutions. Also, the optimized GF3 GPU in the xbox is a DX8 part. Games based on DX9 make much more use of shaders and such and simply won't look/work? on a DX8 GPU.
It does use a directx, but I remember a quote by the team doing the port of HALO. They said it was taking a good deal of time because of how optimized the code was for the specific GPU in the Xbox.
My money right now is on NO BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY it just ain't gonna work.
You know, I wouldn't doubt that in the least. They're saying that their code doesn't crash itself. That doesn't mean that when it isn't flawed from the outside.
The problem with Futurama's timing is that while it stayed in one spot 7:00pm EST. Most of the year it was skipped over due to Football. So you might sit yourself down at 7 and never see an episode.
This made it extremely hard to get a solid fanbase IMHO. Who knew when it would air next, would it be new? would they run last weeks that was skipped?
I'd like to see any show hangon at 7pm for 4years:(

I agree, I don't quite understand what's so great about this, grab an LCD projector and you'd be surprised at where you can put an image. I guess it's cool how they figure how to make fog come out of high powered jets so it's thick enough for an image to work on.
