  1. Now they speak for everyone who creates stuff? on RIAA Sets Their Sights on Russia · · Score: 1

The Intellectual Property of American's doesn't start and end with the RIAA. So how can they lobby to introduce a bill that has ramifications outside their own industry?

Shouldn't there be checks for overstepping one's bounds? Or is it just their money talking again. Funny that, with all the money they have spent on lawsuits and trying to buy laws it's no wonder they are losing profits.

The %AAs can kiss my ass. Their desire to "Protect American's Hard Earned Intellectual Property" has F*CK all to do with American's Intellectual Property and everything to do with the executive's wallet.

There was a time I may have actually started to buy CDs/DVDs again. Real standardized media, not pieces of round plastic that may or may not work with my "shit". Then the %AAs has to go and start all this overstepping of bounds that is so far beyond their business mandate it's in the vacinity of the Pleiades.

The %AAs have shown they care nothing for consumers and nothing for their clients (artists). I just wish the politicians (even the good ones) would actually take a serious look at what they have been paid to endorse. I think we would see most of the proposals defeated with little resistance. Wishful thinking though I know but there it is.

  3. Would this be possible? on Are three cores better than two? · · Score: 1

Since I first heard about SMP years ago (and I'm no hardware supertech by any means) I've wondered about the possibility of a specialized dual or triple core CPU.

My idea was originally as a single chip that is exclusive to the OS and another, and much better chip, for the applications running on the OS. Both chips on the same die. I also envisioned a ram disk for caching the OS for even faster performance as an expansion card. Now with working dual-cores of the same type would it be possible to have a slightly less powerful chip also on the same die and have that chip only accessable by the OS?

It would seem a viable way to have optimum performance given that clock cycles are never diverted from existing applications for OS resources. With many specialized (graphics, sound) aspects of computing getting their own processors why not extend that idea to the OS.

Can any techno guru's chime in on this please?

Bunny hopping is something I personally don't like but I don't see anything "cheat" worthy about it. Neither is spawn camping with a rocket launcher. It's just part of the game.

I'm sorry but when I read your collecting all the weapons before anyone else can get to them I actually laughed out load... quite hard too. The whole point of the game where there are many weapons is to limit the amount your opponent can get thus maximizing you potential to frag the hell out of 'em.

I think you're confusing PRO with NOOB. I've been in many MP servers in all kinds of games and it's the same crap all the time. Get pro's playing against each other and you'll see some of the best game play you could imagine.

Really it all depends on the layout of the building and furnishings.
I installed a 200 client network in a rather old building that had been refurbished and we had no choice but to run our cabling through a raised floor because there was no drop ceiling and the building's owner denied us installing one or cutting the existing structure to run our conduits. So we put in a raised floor and ran our RJ45 through the walk ways between offices and dilbertcubes.
Adding in more clients will be easy as getting to the conduits is. It's when you run your main trunks under areas that will have funiture or dilbertcubes that you'll have issues. Plan, plan, plan and you'll have no headaches... er at least less headaches, this is still IT afterall!
    As for air flow through a raised floor well... the idea of having problems with air flow at corners has been the bane of residential and commercial ductwork installers since the dawn of time. {smacks forehead in a moronic fashion}

    I can confirm that.
I'm a successful software developer and IT admin with a long standing contract with a multi-million dollar company and I have been smoking pot off and on for 15 years. I have seen a lack of concentration while I'm high but nothing in regards to loss of mental capacity in the long run.
In fact, some of my most creative work has been while I was intoxicated.
I'm also a long time sufferer of Migraine with Aura and have not only noticed a decline in frequency but also a significant decline in intensity of my Migraine attacks. I firmly believe this is a direct result of cannibis. It used to be common for me to be prescribed opiates for pain management and now I don't need to put my body through that kind of trauma. The physical effects of Percacet, Morphine, Codeine, etc far outway the benefits imho.
I think the distinction needs to be made though that I'm not an abuser of substances, I don't smoke cigarettes, I don't drink, and my pot use is confined to my house and the evenings when I'm finished work. Some people have a beer afterwork, I have a joint.
I don't endorse use as it can become a problem, but I also think that governments and medical practitioners should seriously look at marijuana law reform. I'm an adult and I should have the right to do what I want provided I don't hurt anyone else in the process, besides, alcohol or cigarettes kill more people each year than pot ever could. I'm not saying we should have the right to take any drug, but I think anyone who has smoked pot at one time in their life can agree that its "government endorsed" distinction as a life destroyer is totally unfounded.

You have no idea how true that is!
I had the same choice, Telus or Shaw. After going with Telus, they WERE my phone service as well, I quickly found out how bad of a choice I had just made.
[rant] Telus locks its network down by the mac address of your nic. They allow you two addresses that can actually be used on the network. I found this out the hard way.
I didn't have a router at the time to just clone an address. My nic died and I replaced it, that used up my two slots through their nic autodetect. I bought a new motherboard with an onboard nic and after install and repair setup of XP I had no internet. I went through everything my 20+ years of tech work could think of. Nada!
Called tech support and they get me going through all kinds of crap that any 1st year "Intro to Computers" student could suggest (are the lights blinking?). Again, nada. After a good 30 minutes on the phone I got bumped to another tech. This person knew their network and practices and looked first off at the registered nic list. After reading off my new nic's mac address I had my internet again.
Here is the kicker, they allow you to do this yourself but you have to go ONLINE to their website to do it?!?!? How the hell can you enter in your new mac address when you have no internet?
This is Telus, I switched to Shaw and have been as happy as a pig in sh*t since. My total bill from Telus every month was ~110.00 with my phone and internet service, and another ~50.00 with my Shaw cable tv. Shaw is ~90.00 a month with my digital tv package and 5mb/1mb internet. I switched to Vonage VoIP for 30.00 a month so I'm already saving 40 bucks a month by dumping Telus.
The revelation that Telus blocked access to certain IPs is no surprise. Telus has violated our rights as consumers, and I hope the government, especially the CRTC, charge them with everything possible to send a message to Telus and other ISP's that try this underhanded tactic. This is just as bad as China blocking CNN and Amnesty International. imho. [/rant] :)
