  1. Re:So here's what you do on Universal Music Prepares for Copy-Protection Complaints · · Score: 1

    Just FYI:
Record stores(tower, etc), do NOT deal directly with record companies. They won't pass the charges on to UMG, they'll pass the charges on to their distributor, who will then in turn pass them to UMG. This is another reason for the over-inflated cost of cd's, a 2nd middle man.

Yeah, Fist of Legend has excellent fight choreography, especially Chen Zen(Jet Li)'s fight with Funokochi Fumio. We can't forget about the fight seen inside the Japanese Compound either. I actually think that Twin Warriors is a better film martial-arts wise, but both are very good... on the subject of storylines, however, keep in mind that Fist of Legend is just a remake of Bruce Lee's "The Chinese Connection"... granted, Jet Li does a better job at it :)

  3. Re:Yes, much better that "Crouching Sitting Whatev on Jet Lag: 2 Reviews Of "The One" · · Score: 2, Informative

Actually, the "plot" to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, is based on an old Chinese tale. Granted, I'm sure things got spiced up here and there for the big screen, but it was an excellent movie.
And c'mon guys... Jet Li has done worse movies than "The One"... anyone remember "Martial Arts of Shaolin"? :)

I have to agree here. Even though I had to drive 60 miles to see it, Iron Monkey was worth the drive. Ang Lee *ALWAYS* delivers. The kung fu in this movie was excellent, especially the chain whip moves :) I will go see The One, but only because I'm a kung fu flick junkie. :) But if you're a Martial Artist like myself wanting to see EXCELLENT technique, check out Iron Monkey :)

  5. Re:Politics, Religion, and using God for man's hat on Afghanistan Bans Internet · · Score: 1

The concept of "righteousness" has led to the "My God is bigger than your God" shit that has been going on for oh, about 4-6,000 years now. Invoking God to justify murder and destruction, all becuase you think your God is right and the other guy's God is wrong.

Agreed. It amazes me how religions that teach things like "love thy neighbour," can create such bloodbaths simply because their neighbour doesn't believe the same thing they do.

I submit that Gods are all the same. A creator, life-giver, a spiritual leader... we just choose to worhip them in different ways.

Again, I agree. I believe in God, being raised as a Baptist Christian, but I do not denounce other religions as "wrong" because I don't believe that way. I believe God is God, whether He is referred to as God, Krishna, Allah, Bhudda, or whatever else you wish to call Him.

Maybe that's oversimplification, but the fact is that it's a big pissing contest.

Well put. It seems to sum up the situation quite well...

Agreed. Losing weight and exercising is a solution, and will cure a large range of problems from lower back pain to joint pain. Also, as was mentioned before, glucosamine is a good supplement to try.

  7. Re:We laugh so we don't cry. on Scott Kurtz Blasts Comic Strips on Tech Support · · Score: 1

I completely agree with you. I'm part owner in a computer retail business, and I do all of our tech support and repairs, etc... Some of these people honestly make you want to either cry or kill. I remember one incident in particular, I replaced a sound card for a customer because it was bad, and he took it home, then called back bitching that it didn't work... I talked him through it several times, and he still couldn't get it to do anything... so, instead of bringing it back in like he should have, he threatened us with the Better Business Bureau and a lawsuit. After taking his verbal abuse for about 30 minutes, I finally convinced him to bring the machine down here, and it turns out he was plugging the speakers into the voice jacks on the modem, and just wouldn't admit it. You can't screw something like that up on a SoundBlaster card, as the jacks on the card are colored. When you've worked in tech support for several years as I and many of my peer posters here have, your opinion on humanity as a whole drops dramatically, there's no avoiding it, there's no way to stop it. Life as a technician will eventually turn you into a BOFH, there's nothing you can do to stop it. It's things like userfriendly that allow us to laugh at the things that would otherwise make us cry. Now I agree that it's wrong to make fun of people trying to learn, but people who are trying to learn don't try to come off like they know more than you do to start with, they're quite receptive to your advice, and they try their best to understand. I'm a teacher of computers, martial arts, and music, so I know what people who want to learn act like. Seems to me that the people whining about comic strips like these are the people who have given their local techies hell and are getting what they deserve.

Learned everything I know about the south from TV and movies? Son, I grew up here in the south, I KNOW what paranoia people have of what they don't percieve as normal. ESPECIALLY in the smaller towns, such as where I attended school. I'm not singling out southerners in general, as I am one myself, I'm simply talking from experience here. You want to talk about intelligence? How about people who only know how to talk by flaming others for what they say? Maybe you should think before opening that orifice in your face you call a mouth.

  9. Typical on Take the FBI's Geek Profile Test · · Score: 1

This is pretty much typical on the short-sided minds of most of the people in this country, especially in the southern states. It's no secret that they've always disliked anyone different from themselves, but now they have to harass them too? I mean come on, the very children they're labeling as potential murderers and troublemakers are probably going to end up their bosses one of these days. Just because someone is of a higher intelligence doesn't mean they're gonna go out here and empty a local taco bell with an uzi. No, the *REAL* troublemakers here are the FBI and the school administration, for being short-sided. The *REAL* potential murderers here are the FBI and the school administration, for the potential murder of individuality and creativeness, which are what make interesting enough to live.

I can't exactly agree with you here... Going to the moon was the first logical step in our continuing exploration of space. Mars is simply too far away for travel at our current level of technology. Until we discover a better way to get around in space, then we're pretty much stuck, because most people aren't willing to spend 5 years in a capsule to get there, and another 5 back. As far as the Apollo 13 mission goes, yes I believe that was one of the greatest hacks of all time, it was an amazing feat of ingenuity. One can only hope that more hacks like this will occur in the new millenium.

As far as just asking them to stop goes, I agree. But on the method of the answer, I cannot. I am a geek, and I'm proud of it. As a freshman in high school, I too had problems with the aforementioned groups, but then I decided I wasn't going to take it anymore, and I got a spine. Most of the time, you'll find that when you stand up to such assholes, they're not as bad as they want you to believe they are. Geeks stand proud, and don't let them get you down. Take confidence in the fact that one day they'll be answering to you because all they can do is work in factories and be stupid.
