... if you intend to use GPL3 in your software.
I don't. I find that GPL2 is more than adequate for my needs, and feel that GPL3 goes more than a bit overboard in many cases.
Let me put on my tinfoil hat... ah, there. Didn't you know that television is one of the best ways to control large numbers of people? Most people spend years of their lives doing nothing but watching TV. If you watch for two hours a day for forty years, and 2 hours is NOT a stretch for most people, you've literally wasted 3.3 years of your life....
When watching TV, you're barely thinking beyond reacting to the stimuli in front of you (laugh, cry, cheer, etc).
I'd agree about change, but what about sales tax? For those USians not so fortunate as to live in a sales-tax free state, sales tax ranges between 3 and 10%; the only solution I could think of would be to price items to come to an even amount AFTER tax, and that would just get tedious...
Will Vista have a watered-down Home version that has fewer security options than the Corporate version?
I'd settle for one with that just had fewer security holes than the Corporate version.
Macromedia has a Linux version of Flash, so I'm not sure it's accurate to say that it's unavailable.
Alas, not for us who run 64-bit linux distros, unless we want to install a 32 bit web browser (and all of its 32 bit dependencies).
unlike nerd and anorak, which still tend to be used as insults
Dude, I would HATE to be called an anorak! After all, who WOULD want to be identified as "a usually pullover hooded jacket long enough to cover the hips". So insulting.
Like, omg, I'm so totally a geek now! I can IM, and sync my ipod, and blog, and post myspace pix! And like, even I know that those popups are annoying!
True, but there's a difference between talking to people and formalized meetings. I can make a few phone calls and find out what I need to about other projects in less than five minutes. Having an hour-long meeting to do the exact same thing seems silly....
Dude... the comment was good, and while I don't agree with it, it was interesting. But the reason I'm writing is... well, for the love of Dog, man, learn to use periods!
*salutes* Yessir. I agree with you all the way. Most convincing. But I do appreciate NOT being modded flamebait, in spite of the rather vitriolic response. I'll also grant that I tend to get off-topic in my replies. Most likely I saw some word or phrase in grandparent that triggered that post... um, correction; I just went back and checked, and couldn't find quite/what/ got me on that tangent.
Alright, so to clarify... while I don't agree with the specifics of DMCA -- jail sentences more stringent than those for rape is ridiculous; having any jail-time at all for ANY victimless crime is rather foolish. However, I don't really have a problem with the principal expressed by it: Namely, content creators (or owners) DO have the right to control what we do with their content.
If I make a program for one company, I damn sure don't want them distributing it to ANYONE else without my OK. On the other hand, when I publish GPL'd code, it's a completely differnt story -- but the point is, as the person who created it, I am the only person with the right to control it.
bn.com carries a wide selection of books, so I'm a bit unclear as to your point.
(OT) Good point. It's right up there with the government claiming to "lose" money when taxes are cut.
That's not a bug, it user error!
Damn. Must... use... preview.
Instead, they blamed biased reporting from brain tumour sufferers who knew what side of the head their tumours were on.
That's not a bug, it user error!
The question is, which is worse -- the trupe posting, or the 150-uplicate comments pointing it out...
While I agree 100% with the sentiment, I believe that the GPL2 already has that covered. But as someone else mentioned, that's the beauty of choice...
Heh... minor practical issues such as the one your raise are simply not important when it comes to idealoguing...
My problem with DRM is that we've all bought into calling it "DRM" instead of URR ("User Rights Restriction") or some other more accurate appellation.
That being said, I suffer from the same dilemma.

Perhaps a magic pill will ease any symptoms of post-slashdot stress syndrome.
I'll have to check it out; thanks.

Aha -- that explains it, thanks.

Then again, I'm sure the spyware authors would love to have a reference document, detailing how not to get caught.
Year or two? "leverage" was grating my nerves over a decade ago, when I first started in IT.
Hmm.. I think you meant terabit.

Eh? Why start now...
