The Ubuntu fanboys enjoy ripping on Red Hat for not contributing to the desktop, and for being a boring company focusing only on the serverside of things. Seems like that position is bullshit. People are also claiming that Red Hat doesn't care about the desktop, which this proves is also pure crap. For the people positioning Ubuntu as the desktop champion of GNU/Linux they're not contributing anywhere. Not the kernel, not GNOME, no where are they contributing a significant amount of patches. And all the apologists are busy trying to justify that the most downloaded distribution on distrowatch is not giving back anything significant. Even the fluendo guys are contributing more than Ubuntu.
Why yes, we were just waiting for some anecdotal evidence to contradict this article. That's perfect, now that we've established that two of the user aren't smug assholes then... What's that? They never claimed EVERYONE that has an iPad is selfish and elitist? Really. Hm.
Microsoft doesn't have to do anything, how many opengl games came out in the last years?
This is a common misconception by gamers, that their niche hobby is actually relevant. Newsflash: it isn't. Yes yes, we all know how gamers go "I'D GO LUNIX IF ONLY IT HAD GAMEZZ", but even if games are ported, it wouldn't have much impact on the marketshare. The battle is elsewhere.
Ugh, I'm gonna undo all my mod points for this but... Fedora is on the bleeding edge, it has never been about stuffing the distro with old and vulnerable software. The comparison is so far off it's not even funny. If he'd said 'Debian Stable' I might've seen the humor in it, but using Fedora is a really poor example. So he's not only a troll, but a stupid one at that. And it's really annoying seeing all the hate Fedora and Red Hat gets here on/. even if they do amazing work for both servers and desktops. I wish the constant Apple and Ubuntu masturbation would stop.
First off, throw all the resumes with certifications in the circular file. Seriously: that's the first sign they don't know what they're doing.
This is complete and utter bullshit. My last boss had a boatload of certs and managed offices for ca. four countries almost singlehandedly, he would easily run circles around your sorry administrative ass all day long.
From a usability standpoint, Symbian sucks. The interface is horrible, and it's very clear that it's an interface made for buttons that's being shoehorned into touchscreens. I recently had to quit using my N97 because it's aggravating to use it. First of all, choosing a wireless network in your proximity takes a ridiculous amounts of clicks. Unless there's a better way to do it, but if it is, it's not intuitive. I also had a major issue with finding the numerical keyboard when I'm in a call, for advancing through automatic answering machines. Really, there was *NO* button that made sense to push for it to pop up that keyboard. It's really hard finding a replacement to the iPhone, especially when you want to go one step above and have a hardware keyboard. Right now I'm testing the N900, but since I'm changing my entire stack at home(Macs are going out, and GNU/Linux and PCs are going in.), it's hard to find some simple way of syncing the phone. I wish Nokia would release a proper way to do this, atleast something integrated with KDE, as they now own Qt.
I've never even seen a mainframe, so I have this question: What sort of programming interfaces exist? Are there a lot of of the shelf proprietary software running on the mainframes or are there mostly in-house software? In both cases, is it really that hard to migrate to another mainframe vendor? Oracle, HP, Unisys or Groupe Bull? And if it isn't, then why claim IBM has a monopoly?
I have to say, Apple would never make this an official policy. A reseller just got caught with their pants down and is trying to blame Apple for it. Apple almost never interferes with sales policies at resellers, as long as you don't try to pull a fast one with regards to usage of the logo or other images. We would regularly get yelled at for some of Apples antics in the press, people never seem to be able to distinguish between Apple and resellers. What's more depressing is that nobody on/. seems to be able to either.
And now I'm awaiting what all the SCO pundits have to say. O'Gara, Lyons, Enderle, and Paul Murphy. Come on fuckers, we want to hear you explain your idiocy. Or are you going to flee with your tails between your legs?
I read on Wikipedia that "Apple quietly stopped providing software updates for Leopard."
Oh, it was on wikipedia, then it must be true! Seriously, Leopard still gets security fixes and other small patches, but not a lot of new features. It's like running RHEL or Debian stable, it's feature frozen.
Lemme guess, Jon - you don't like girls, and you think computer engineering and programming should be closed boy's clubs, right?
Wow, you really suck at this. No, this is in no way representative for what I think. What I do like though, is take cheap shots at people to get an easy +1 Funny, and if some oversensitive jerkwad gets his panties up in a bunch, that's just a bonus. It's a joke, laugh. Don't take everything so damn serious.
And if you believe that there are 50/50 females/males in *BSD land(if you exclude OS X), then I've got an island to sell you.
Oh, and by the way, I'm not old enough to remember when it was en exclusive boy's club. So kindly fuck off.
The pen, though.... I can't think of any set that has come with a pen. Maybe use one from LEGOLAND?
Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me here, but there was this set that my older brother got a long time ago, which was a husge truck, that had extra instructions for making it into either a sorting machine(I don't know the technical name) or a drawing machine. I believe that one came with a pen, so if I remember correctly some sets have been known to come with pens.
The DRM-removal could actually be made retroactive for every song you've purchased earlier. So it's a great chance it actually plays every song in your iTunes Library if it plays AAC.

Sir, I must congratulate you for not understanding the issue at hand at all. And people wonder why audiophiles are being made fun of.

Always has a nice human readable summary of the changes.
XCode is also completely free, and actually ships with OS X.

I had no idea that BadAnalogyGuy had changed nick. Jesus tapdancing christ this was a poor analogy.

Slashdot needs a -1 Crackpot mod.
According to the Apple Store, an Airport Extreme costs 179$ not 230$... Maybe you're thinking of the Time Capsule?
First, learn to distinguish between general malware, viruses and trojans. Then you get to criticize other people's security arrangements.

Man, I wish I could mod you up. I hope I never forget how to have fun like that.
After the complete fuckup that was Knights of the Old Republic II I am never buying anything that Obsidian creates again.

Okey, I'm calling your bullshit.
Which you'll have to get a new phone to get, since none of the carriers nor the supplier of the phones have a proper upgrade plan.

Stupidity seems to be able to compete with light though.
