He should apply it to movies as well. HD-DVD and Blueray are coming, and with draconian DRM-measures, it's gonna be hell for people with alternative operating systems.(Not OS X/Windows).
Holy cown Batman! X11 is like emulation? Seriously, are all Mac users this stupid? There's no standard on the Mac either. Garageband, iTunes, iMovie, whatever. They look slightly different, and behaves slightly different. Not to mention Final Cut, Aperture, and the mess of other applications.
What the fuck?
If you want apache to start at boot time, there's chkconfig:
chkconfig --level 3 httpd on
Finished. Red Hat uses the proper name for the daemon, httpd, since Apache is a whole lot more than a web server. As for the recompile arguments, whenever I need some more functionality from my webserver, I use yum to install the binary packages. Any sysadmin worth his god damn salary should know about this. Please stop being a fucktard.
Just don't give him too many chairs
What the hell? Give him enough chairs to destroy the shuttle, then have Tux appear on the screen as they lift off. That would probably do the trick.
On the other hand this does bode well for OS X and Solaris.
Yeah, it's not like upgrades to OS X 10.4.9 breaks drivers. Oh yeah, I spent the better part of yesterday reverting to 10.4.8 because the update broke the draytek minivigor driver. Fuck that, I've never had a driver that works break on my debian stable box.
This isn't Microsofts problem, it's Novells. If they don't comply with the GPLv3, then they will not be able to distribute SUSE. Microsoft won't care, they sell Windows.
You wanna know why some consider Linux evangelists to be elitist or sanctimonious? Its because of statements like this, Microsoft and Apple can match this devotion only in the ferocity with which they defend their control over their customers, in anti-trust trials and by imposing DRM.
Thanks for telling me that, I was an Apple user because I liked their products, but you Mr. Linux user have show me that I was just a dumb slave! Seriously, putting words into peoples mouths and basically calling anyone that doesn't use linux a "dumb slave"(while maybe not in those words, the insinuation is there) is why I don't like Linux fanboys. I use linux at work, but don't really consider ideology alone when making that decision. Maybe one day you will realize that your definition of freedom isn' the only definition.
If they can push nvidia to open either their source code or documentation, then that's great! Right now, getting the driver to work in distros where non-free software is shunned is not much of a hassle, but a little one. If Fedora could be able to ship nvidia(And perhaps ATi)-drivers out-of-the-box then it would be a nice selling point for those that want eye-candy. It would also be easier for those that distribute GNU/Linux to maintain the driver over a longer period of time and perhaps also support older chipsets.
So, when you think of free speech, you only think of cost?

Remote login man, remote login. ;)
Shit should just work.
Currently, no operating system does this as of today(Not OS X either.). But GNU/Linux is the closest one.
True. I didn't even know who George Carlin was until I saw him on youtube. Now I own both Life is worth losing and Complaints and Grievances.
Great. NOW I'm out of mod points.
Link to ESRs plans for world domination? Too bad there is no -1 idiot.

$ aptitude moo and $ aptitude moo -v

wtf? eDirectory, GroupWise, Lotus Notes and so on, already runs on GNU/Linux. Give Novell a call and be enlightened.
How do you propose one codes around a patent?
Ubuntu includes a boatload of proprietary drivers. I was not talking about codecs.
I can not seem to find Apples offering that competes with VMware, can you?
You seem to believe that SUSE and RHEL are gratis, they aren't.
You might want to tell Peugot that, as theyre rolling out 20k _desktops_ with SUSE on, and you also might want to email the city of Munich, they are migrating to Debian. At least you should have a quick chat with these people: http://www.computerweekly.com/Articles/2007/02/21/ 221941/kingfisher-migrates-to-red-hat-linux.htm (I know you said end users, I just could not resist).
okey, they took Z from Apple, X from BSD, and Y from GNU/Linux, I just can't figure out what they stole from IBM this time... G?
Fit right in, both Ubuntu and ESR loves proprietary stuff.
There aren't that many grandmas installing and setting up Windows either.
Now that is rich.
Yeah, I had GLX out-of-the-box with my Radeon 9600, but scrolling with firefox was a world of lag. :)
