The Hurd and Linux are quite different beasts. The Hurd is supposed to be run on top of a lot of Microkernels(Mach is the one that's working for now), and as such it is very different from Linux. Do a Google search for monolithic and microkernel and be enlightened. They both have merits, pros and cons.
The kernel is most certainly staying GPLv2, what Novell should be worried about is the GNU-toolchain and other software(samba) which is going to go GPLv3.
The themeing and look isn't determined by the application, but the windowmanager/desktop environment. Meaning that if you write an app for KDE, KDE will determine how the app looks. Same thing if you write for OSX' carbon or cocoa, or whatever the hell it's called.
You wouldn't be interested in sharing what KDE applications you left in your typical workstation setup? I'm guessing Firefox, open office stuff, evolution (or similar) and possibly GAIM or some other IM client.
None of these are KDE applications. It'd probably be konqueror, koffice, kmail/kontact and kopete. If you're running pure KDE, like I do.
apt and rpm are two very different things and thus shouldn't be compared. My experience with apt is that dpkg -i had a nasty habit of hosing the entire package manager if the deps weren't alright.(No, apt-get -f install didn't help.)
I was also wondering about that, more specific: The API-part, what does he mean? Does he want a stable Linux-api? KDE? GNOME? X? OpenGL? From my point of view, it looks like he just hasn't completely understood what he's talking about. And common? They all share the Linux-kernels, and a lot of them uses the same graphical user interface(Red Hat, SUSE and Ubuntu have sort of standardized on GNOME)
I fail to see have "TGZ hell" is any better than "RPM hell".
People piss and moan about rpm even though it's had package managers for some time, Slackwares binary packages also have deps, and so have source packages. Please stop the mindless idiotic bashing of package systems.
Yeah, and that has never crossed the mind of the companies making GNU/Linux distros, but I can imagine Adobe and others saying: "There aren't a market for it", so how about you stop complaining like it's the distro makers fault, and rather send an email to Adobe, requesting a GNU/Linux version of Photoshop, if enough paying costumers do, adobe and others will listen.
If everything's free, how's a guy supposed to have an income? It's still capitalist around here and I don't think that's changing.
Wow, you really don't get it, do you? RMS has never been talking about price, it's FREEDOM that matters to him, he has never said that the software is supposed to be gratis.
There's 5 install cds, and then theres the rescue-cd. Just have a look here: http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux /core/6/i386/iso/
I'd be running Fedora if their version of KDE didn't look like shit.

I would assume it's those people that bend over for Microsoft.
I thought they were going to bend over? Or have they already done that?

Nice try Mr. Ballmer.
And Norway.

Errr, her name was Kreia... And yeah, it took forever to get the lightsaber, but then again, that's what EnableCheats = 1 is for :p

AppArmor is to my knowledge open source and/or free software, besides, SELinux exists.
They're going to do a stock install of Ubuntu on all the machines for 2,600 schools? Yeah, right.
Yeah, because Ubuntu is the only free-as-in-beer distro out there. Sheesh.
Are you implying that there was a japenese intern naming VISTA? I say, the childish attacks on Microsoft are getting worse :-)

Maybe you should atleast read the summary. It's open source. Your post makes little or no sense at all.

Site doesn't work :-(
I suspect the .wmv-thing has something to do with the settlement between the two companies back when it was still "Lindows".
But I was under the impression that graphics drivers were to be pushed into user space?
If this exploit exists on other platforms? Like say, the free Unix-clones like FreeBSD or Linux?

Ask Red Hat.
