  1. My game(s) of the year on What Is Your Game of the Year? · · Score: 1

My game of the year is Portal, simply an awesome game with my review here.

My console game of the year is Call of Duty 4 (yes the game is also on the PC, but I played it on the Xbox 360). My review for that is here.

I played a lot of portable games this year but nothing really that new, mostly catching up on things. Two games of note were Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime and Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (review). Both good games but nothing I can say is game of the year quality.

I also traditionally pick a game that didn't come out this year but I played it for the first time, this year I have to give that to Psychonauts. Truly a wonderful and hilarious experience. If you're wondering... here's my review.

Disclaimer, there's no ads or anything on my site so I'm not trying to cash in on Slashdot, but if you're interested in a further opinion, check them out.

Yes, the users did give permission to Blockbuster to broadcast their rentals. So this is really an issue between "written consent" that the summary says and electronic consent without a hand-written signature. I would guess there's tons of precedent one way or the other, though I wouldn't know which way this would lean.

Well, this isn't exactly your typical season for new TV shows. Many new shows are not even being considered for continuation due to the writer's strike. I kind of enjoyed Bionic Woman, and I think it would have continued past eight episodes if not for the strike, maybe not for a second season though.

  11. Leaked pilots on TV Industry Using Piracy As A Measure Of Success · · Score: 3, Informative

Many new shows this year were leaked weeks and months before their pilot aired, undoubtedly creating early talk about the shows that they wouldn't get otherwise.

I watched a few and they helped me make decisions, half of the Geico Cavemen pilot was enough forever, and the Sarah Connor Chronicles pilot renewed my interest in the Terminator series and I'm totally pumped for the show this January or February.

Cats must be incredibly resilient not even considering their ability to fall from great heights.

But not many of them have been in high profile roles like Jade Raymond was for Assassin's Creed as Producer. Well, not only was she the Producer but she was basically the lead PR rep because of the way Ubisoft used her.

  16. Elspeth Tory interview on Talking With the Women Working In Games · · Score: 4, Interesting
I read the Elspeth Tory interview this morning and found it incredibly interesting. I was sort of following Assassin's Creed during development and anyone familiar with that game is also familiar with Jade Raymond. It took me a while to figure out that Jade was actually working on the game and was not just some pretty-face put there by Ubisoft to play it and pose for pictures. Ubisoft basically whored out their Lead Producer on one of their premier titles to sell the game, and I guess it worked... but they're experiencing some backlash now from industry professionals.

This was my favorite question and answer:

Multiplayer: When disparaging stuff comes out on the Internet, what advice do you have for women dealing with that type of scrutiny?

Tory: Don't read the forums! [Laughs] Don't read the forums. That's what I was told by some people and I stopped doing that, so that's good. That's helping. And try and focus on the positive aspect of what you do and the end result. I think it's tough to know what to do. Do you react against it? Do you sort of say things verbally? Again, I think it's more about visibility. So if people are having issues, well then we're just going to go out there and make more games that are kick-ass and more games where there is a woman running it and more games where we're doing a great job. I think it's just going to have to eventually erode. It'll just eventually come to an end, and it'll be completely normal to have high-profile women on big projects. Guess we won't be seeing posts from Elspeth and Jade here... But I hope they keep making games, we need some diversity in the industry in all aspects of development and productions. I'm playing Assassin's Creed myself right now and though it has many flaws, I'm still enjoying it.

Well, in argument for people touting Assassin's Creed, Rock Band, and Mass Effect as GOTY before they were released, they were all games from respected developers with good history (Ubisoft, Harmonix, and Bioware respectively), and early previews were saying that the games were good. I would personally never name a game GOTY before it was released but there are fanboys, PR reps, and just excited fans that do. Daikatana didn't really have that great of momentum before release (remember the infamous PC Gamer ad?) and Black and White... well, that was hyped up beyond belief and it definitely failed to deliver, and it was from Peter Molyneux of Populus fame, so I'll give you that one.

The Wii is still popular because of its momentum from last holiday season and it's appeal to casual gamers. But besides the licensed crap that appears on every system, what has really stood out (this year) to the casual gamer besides what I named?
