iirc a-radiation is the lesser of all evils
a-radiation are the cores of He atoms -- whats so bad with a proton+neutron?
    b-radiation are high speed electrons

    those are the worst

oh sorry i've read TFA by now and you're right

anyway i did some googling for it and find that iptables has a pds (port scan detection) module
which is sadly not compiled in slackware's version of iptables and that
there is yet another something called ippersonality
which is very outdated ... the site has patches for kernel 2.4.18 :(
and i also found this thread http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/16/165 214&tid=172

I wonder tho how they ... know which os the bots are running?
i mean i use nmap, and other portscanners myself but the OS detection
is just a sane guess and far from perfect

I also wonder what the 0.05 % of other OS'es are because i do think
this malware is written on the win32 api, so i rather guess these were inconclusive
OS fingerprinting and/or *Nix systems running a virtual machine or ... wine ...
if this is possible (i'm not trying to troll here)

And if this is possible i do want to know what kind of measures the users of these non conclusive
Os fingerprinting scans used because ... it would stop many script-kiddies from trying to automatic crack your machines, if they can't find which OS you're running ...

Anyone has some tips about this in particular
How do i fool commonly used portscanners etc ... in their OS detection ... on Windows and *Nix systems?

i must agree killer-appz are a very important factor when choosing operating systems

    • winamp - yeah i know i use xmms myself but xmms doesn't ring a bell to most people
    • nero
    • photoshop
    • MSN messenger
    • MS Outlook
    • MS Excel
    • firewall --> the expensive firewall they purchased from the local computer guy
sadly this is mostly one of Symantec's products or McAfee ;(
you can try to convince them to use better products but what they pay for they'll want to run
i think this has something to do with people don't like to admit their mistakes or in this case that they've waisted their money

./configure; make; make install is not the way to go
if configure fails it'll still try to make it ... etc
./configure && make && make install is better assuming you are root when you compile things
(and offcorse want the program to end in the your PATH)
best thing tho is to first read README INSTALL and then ./configure and output the options to a file
So you can consult them first before making the thing

./configure && make && make install are fine for most packages but for importants programs like mplayer, mencoder you should
take all of your time you have to compile xvid, h..., Nvidia XvMC support, .... therefore first consult the configure options and read the documentation and for
a lot of people doing all that is just hardcore!
when my friends see me compile mplayer altho i have frontends of mplayers installed on their pc's
and they use it daily they say damn you're a geek and damn GNU/linux is hard but then i always
remind them of the fact that some guy did even more hardcore shit than i did to get to compile those win
