He's right that we should respect Microsoft. It doesn't mean that we shouldn't ridicule them, but we should act professional and respect them because whether or not you agree with them, its the professional thing to do. Linux is always going to be the fanboy's OS as long as the people supporting it act like juveniles. Now thats not to say poking fun behind closed doors isn't allowed, but to the public we need to act professional. Do you really expect people to trust an OS, the backbone of one of their most important assets, that is backed by unprofessional juveniles?

The evidence for a world wide flood go together. Most people have heard of the idea that if you put a dam at the Grand Canyon that most of the Midwest would turn into a giant lake. There is even evidence that it could have once been a giant lake, fish bones and such in desert. Basically the idea is that if there has always been a river and then there was a flood, the river could have become blocked as the water left, evaporated, gone down into the Earth, and froze at the poles. Then when the dam broke water rushed out and carved the Grand Canyon. The idea is also supported from the fact that rushing water takes the path of least resistance and thus would explain the randomness of its path.

The idea with lunar dust is that over time dust collects on the moon's surface. That is a fact and because of that when the lunar lander was created they gave it long legs. NASA expected there to be a couple of feet of dust since it would have been collecting for hundreds of millions of years. However once on the moon they found that their was only a couple of inches, only enough for a few thousand years.

The Earth's rotation is slowing over time, by about 2 milliseconds a year. This means that billions of years ago when the Earth was so-called created the days were about 13.5 hours. The Earth's rotation would be so great that gravity would make it impossible to live and survive.

No, I'm not saying you should believe in God because its the safe choice. You should never believe in something based on one reason and one reason only. However, there are some reasons that outweighs others, and when it comes down to believing in God because you don't want to go to hell or not believing simply because you want to live life however you want to and not live under certain rules, you should really think about your choices.

Also, it does matter in what God you believe in and whether you believe in one over the other. Hindus and Christians very greatly in their beliefs. Even the differences between the Jewish faith and Christian faith makes a large difference. I mean if you were to have you son go through unbearably amounts of pain for someone to live wouldn't you want that person to at the very least say thank you? Or if you told someone to follow certain traditions as a price for eternal life? Or if you told your people to pray 5 times a day and go on a pilgrimage once in there life in order to get to live in paradise? Ideas are different in each religion and whichever God is the true God he has all the right to judge someone based on their belief in said God.

People aren't racist because they were born thinking its ok, their racist because thats how they are grown up to think or what they are taught to think. I'm not saying that people aren't born with some kind of barring on right and wrong, but I don't think it is the major guiding force for their ideas of right and wrong.

And no I'm not trying to preach a fire and brimstone kind of way. I'm just saying. I mean really we both could be wrong and Zeus is the one in the sky and we have to go pay a trip to Hades when we die. In the end we all have choices to make. Its just that in hope of "helping" you, I try to convince you of my way and vice versa. It always amazes me to hear people talk about how "religious zealots" have to be wrong and that they have no understanding of science. Yes I am a Christian and yes I believe in creation. However I also read Slashdot because I want to keep current in the newest scientific ideas. I don't believe in God because my parents do or because I live in Southeast America. I believe in God because, in my opinion, there is an abundance of information that points to not only creation but also a young Earth. Evolution however is held together with loose ideas and bad science. I'm open to discussions about religion and science however, as so many people on here claim about us "religious zealots", as soon as I start a discussion the other person just dismisses me saying that I'm closed minded.

In case your wondering about what evidence I'm talking about, I'm referring to all the evidence for a world wide flood(petrified upside down forest, the idea of the Grand Canyon being formed in a day), the lack of lunar dust, and the speed of the Earth's rotation. Those ideas are the more scientifically oriented ideas. The bad science I would be referring to is the utter reliance on flawed Carbon dating, using Murchison's meteorite, and just the fact that science can't even come up with an even half believable theory on how everything came to be.

Now here is your chance to decide whether or not you want to make cheap shots at a so called "religious zealot" or actually say something worth discussing.

The problem is that everyone is hung up on Bush with the war and make that the issue that sways their vote, not just for president but for everything. In doing that they completely miss other issues that need to be watched just as closely. The reason I said that about Obama though is because its the point people want to argue. If you look into Obama though you could compare him to Kerry in that he tries to please everyone and thats not what being in a position of power is about. Its about guiding the country to be better and ensuring its survival long after he has left power.

The way I see things though is that everyone goes with everyone else, which doesn't work. When you try to educate people in the truth(yes I know you can always argue its your truth versus theirs) and all they spit out is the last thing they heard on CNN or what they read off Wikipedia, its frustrating. People just need to start to take the time to learn about these things instead of voting the same way their best friend did.

You could even bundle like groups of 25 computers or monitors and sale them bulk to people or companies that can't afford all new hardware. Then if your good enough at it people will come back when those go bad or to "upgrade" in 2 to 3 years and by then you would have "new" hardware. 18. problems yes, but was there ever a bubble? no on Has the Desktop Linux Bubble Burst? · · Score: 1

This topic is very stupid. First off lets be real, there never was a bubble, and as long as the open source community stays the way it is, there never will be a bubble.

The reason that I say there never was a bubble is because the same places that say there is/was a bubble, are the same places that Linux is the greatest OS out there. Truth be told, Linux is a OS that has alot of potential but no unity. As long as there is a lack of unity there will be no bubble of any kind. "But thats what the open source community is about, unity." Really? Then why is it we have 2 types of desktops that don't resemble each other at all. Yeah, Windows has 2 types of desktop but at least they look alike and you don't have to start a new session every time you want to switch, might as well reboot. Why is it that we have a million different media players, text editors, and game programs that allow you to play the same fricken game. It makes no sense at all.

You might have noticed I left out the part about having a million distros too. That has to be the biggest problem. A problem that will have to be solved but if these other problems get solved then everything will just fall into place.

Don't get me wrong, I love Linux. What I hate is how it's split up into a million different projects that all do the same thing. The funding that goes to all these different projects could go to one project. Open source is all about efficiency right? If we unified, we could actually afford to run ads, make business deals and push forward alot faster.

But as far as a bubble? There never was one.

While informing the public about the shortcomings of Vista is important, it won't actually sway the public. Also in the end this campaign will reach the ears of people who already know what they are preaching. IMO I think the time and money put into this could be better used promoting free operating systems to the public. Many people say that its pointless because the general public won't switch without wide spread support from companies, but the larger the user base, the more support there will be. We need to get common computer users to recognize that there are free alternates to Windows and as long as we have small projects like this we won't get anywhere and you can spread all the praise you want but without unification you can only get so far.
I don't know exactly where Microsoft is going with the Novell agreement but I say we turn that around on them and tell the world that Microsoft approves of Linux. If the deal is going to stay in place we might as well get the most out of it. Also, we need to promote the advances Linux has made over Windows such as the beautiful AIGLX and easy Synaptic.
Sometimes here on Slashdot we forget that everyone doesn't know about the things we know about. We need to rally together not to shoot down Microsoft but build up the project that so many of us work on mold.
