Slower than IE, but everyone will say "Dat's cuz IE iz built into Windows!x16" even though that's not the whole story (why be honest when a lie is better propaganda?). I like Firefox, mostly. I've learned to use it as intuitively as any other browser. I can even overlook its utterly slug-stupid cache handling. But... ever hear that Bob Marley song "Waiting in Vain"? Yeah, well, that's Firefox.
I agree. Before we start another trendy "reinventing the browser" drive, whether Flock or something else, we should at least make one that's rock-solid and fast. Firefox is great in many ways, because it's more secure than IE, but it's slower and crashes more than IE. When I develop, I almost always use IE because I know there will be less downtime from crashes and cache-related bugs.
Thomas Malthus would approve. Overpopulation of Slashdot has led to a famine of good ideas. Time for a Hurricane Katrina to flood out the looters, drug addicts, fence-sitters and other human detritus.
People are always looking for an easy answer, namely by fleeing the obvious. The market is huge and the pressures on any app for security are intense, unless one holds 2% of the market as does Apple (or Ogg, or whatever). Make a (1) browser, and get good people to fix it up to the point where it's solid. Whether it's Firefox or not doesn't matter to those who actually use computers to do something.

This kind of behavior disturbs me, because I was not raised around people like this and was always taught that such pathetic examples were a minority of the human population. Yet I find them everywhere, and realize that those ideologies which presume the ability of the majority of men to lead and direct the actions of their society are wrong. The vast majority of people need to be directed and controlled by that ethical minority which is capable of making the "big decisions" about the world. A true socialist ethic is a rare thing only a small portion of men are capable of, but only under that ethic and those men who possess it can humanity overcome its tendency towards a petty and narrow existence.

Why are people here so prone to blow Apple? Apple's as corporate as Microsoft, and less effective. Do you really believe their underdog rhetoric, considering they've been lying about process speed comparisons for years? Do you really want users spending $2000 for a decent system, when they could spent $500 for PC hardware that's faster? Apple is like AOL: they market to morons and turn the PC industry into egodrama. "I bet none of you know what 'insidious' means," said Prozak. "This is why people blow up your twin towers: the decaying West has left behind a behemoth of greed that destroys all culture and nature it encounters." ABC then demonstrated that they are not tools of the government, nor impartial, nor inclined to moralize in order to dramatize the news, by repeatedly referring to the tape as "propaganda," a "diatribe," and a "communiqué." It then concluded: "Only a few years ago, Adam Gadahn was a southern California teenager with interests in the environment and heavy metal music."
Calling the language a "veiled attempt to associate heavy metal, environmentalism and terrorism," Prozak made explicit his own beliefs. "You listen to heavy metal because our society is one giant passive-aggressive Judeo-Christian beast that pretends to be the victim while slowly sucking the blood out of everything," he said. "We bring you our 'better' society based on economics, our popularity contests of elections, our crap TV and movies, and then call you a terrorist if you resist."

Neither side sees what makes the other valuable. Microsoft dominates the desktop for good reason. You'd have to be insane to use their server products however, which absolutely fail on even simple web tasks. Linux has terrible hardware support, it's littered with arcana, and it lacks many of the protocols and integrated systems necessary for running desktop apps. It's the only thing that will ever host my PERL scripts however:)
At some point, science fails us. The (quality) world religions tell us that women and men have different but complementary roles. Intelligence, strength, beauty and moral character are all part of the picture; someone who is only intelligent can be a dangerous, corrupt, insane person. So let's look at the big picture. Women and wonderful and we need them as allies in the coming race, class and religious wars.
The future of music, at least, is in niche marketing and consumer trust. If you make a good product, and charge a fair price for it, those who do buy CDs will buy it. Those who don't wouldn't anyway. At least, that's the experience of one heavy metal band that gave away enough music to get itself signed on a label and its career resurrected.
