  1. Well written on An Inconvenient Truth · · Score: -1

Jamie, that was really well-written. I wonder if Mr Gore has broached the subject that third world growth is a bigger problem than first world growth, or mentioning that we can get by without most of the people on this earth because they're too dumb to contribute something. I wonder if he mentioned the the OLPC and other feel-good projects are just making the global warming situation worse. I wonder if, like Plato, he knows that the only society which avoids long-term problems is an oppressive one. In short, I wonder if he's a philosopher or just a cheerleader, but either way I'm applauding him (and you for that article, which is as I say, well-written).

Now that we know the Allies were bigger dickheads than the Nazis and killed more people and have brought us the evil American superpower, isn't it time we can start playing the lesser of two evils? Hitler and Tojo and Mussolini et al weren't saints, but they would never have created the mess we have now. Down with the Allies!

  4. Not pro-Firefox on Explorer Destroyer · · Score: -1

We all lived through Netscape's unreliability for years. IE is more stable, but is vulnerable to intrusion through its helpful consumerware entry points. I cannot recommend Firefox because of its numerous memory leaks, times when code makes it go OMG WTF and crash, and some of its dubious HTML interpretation (let's get real about standards that work for the user, here).

While I'm not pro-IE, it does make authoring easier by establishing a Pax Romana over all standards, and it's more stable than Firefox. If you do switch a browser, try Opera -- so far, this is the best I have used. Let's demand more from our browsers instead of "settling for" what seems like the logical alternative.

  5. I don't think video will do this on Linux Version of Democracy Player Released · · Score: 0

Video encourages passive living, vegetating in front of a computer like a useless geek while life goes by. Television is the great pacifier Marx ascribed to religion, but even more convenient. Video is like a cheap drug, more effective than meth or crack, and it helps "democracies" keep their fat, quasi-functional, narrow-intelligence citizens from noticing how we're eating our world alive and dooming ourselves to be corporate slaves. In other words, all that nice boilerplate about "democracy" is as much BS as a drug dealer talking about his "humanism."

Instead of watching more fetus-brain internet video, read: Aristotle, Faulkner, Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Nietzsche, even the Bible if it's what you dig (or have all of you converted to Judaism and Islam since GWB made Christianity synonymous with insane?). Reading is a revolutionary act. Television-watching is a shallow and conformist one.

  7. Democracy encourages self-centered thinking on Linux Version of Democracy Player Released · · Score: 0

Democracy is rule by what the individual desires, not what's best for all of us -- or the environment. Of course, most of us want that big house, that big truck, that big screen TV, and a life of ease, so rapidly it becomes selfish. (I'm not too fond of capitalism either, but if self-interest is the game, the two aren't necessarily linked but one will probably lead to the other!)

Apple Computer, Inc. was pleased to announced today that with the arrival of two recent worms for the Bluetooth wireless networks on its effete line of compers, the Macintosh, the company has claimed the spotlight previously possessed by larger corporation Microsoft. Known for years as the company with 2% market share that received no viruses because it was easier to find a gay Baptist than a Mac user, Apple feels it has "hit the big time" and the quality of these worms proves it.

"While this particular worm is not fully functional, the source code could be easily modified by a future attacker to do damage," said Vincent Weafer, security director at Symantec anti-virus software labs. Nonetheless, industry observers consider it proof of Apple's ongoing successes, even if it is rumored that the virus writers thought they were hacking an iPod, not a Mac.
