as much as i love Legos, i don't really care about bowing down to corporate pressure and saying things like THEY want me to. Adobe bitches when people use 'Photoshop' as a verb, or simply 'Photochop', but i'm not going to stop on account of corporate America. What's next, instead of 'Coke', Coca-Cola is going to force me into saying 'The Delicious Coca-Cola beverage: the real thing' everytime i mention their product? BULLSHIT!
in my day you only had simple blocks and no figures and no wheels and it was so much more fun and kids these days get whole blocks already in the shape of a car and its all about Star Wars and Harry Potter and not about building and blah blah blah.... and even though i could easily look online or go to the store to see that basic sets and creative sets are still available or remember that minifigs and specialty pieces have been around for 20 years, i'm still going to just spout garbage and complain on slashdot... oh, and Bill Gates sucks
maybe there's a sensitivity setting or pehaps the feeling isn't exactly like that of "real" hot or cold, and you could train yourself to get past the initial reflex
i want a lazer cannon built into my arm! and if it can't be one unit, i at least want to the ability to switch between hand and cannon.
i've always said that if i had to get a prosthetic arm, i'd rather get one that functions well with a cool metalic sci-fi look, than one that just looks realistic but didn't do much
Honestly, I find this terrible. In my book, Batman is NOT a ninja. He learned to kick ass in the good ole U.S. of A.
Bruce Wayne traveling the world and learning different skills from different masters has been in the comic books for a loooong time. The details of the training are very different from the movie, but the idea of traveling to a remote location in Asia and studying martial arts for years has been part of his backstory for many decades.
A friend and i were just discussing the mix tapes of our youth the other day. When you'd strive to make sure the song was cut in EXACTLY. How you'd try to fill to the exact end of the tape. How you could fill in with sound effects from tv shows. Waiting for hours for your favorite song to come on the radio, then carefully editing around the dj chatter. Giving or recieving a mixtape as a gift really MEANT something.
CD's are just too easy, a few minutes on P2P or the iTunes store, and you're done. You kids don't know how good you got it! We had to walk uphill both ways in the snow to get to the tape recorder, and.....
hmmm, who should i listen to, one of my favorite science fiction authors who's entertained me for years and has some pretty good insights on the human condition... or some knee-jerk ratings-grabbing whiny neo-con asshole from whom i only derive entertainment by laughing at his stupidity?
if you're introducing the films for the first time to someone, whether its your child or just a friend, the best order would be: ANH: meet Luke, get ushered into this fantastic world ESB: the big reveal about Luke and Vader TMP, AotC, Clone Wars, RotS: an extended flashback to see where it all started (fast forward past huge chunks of tpm if you want) RotJ: wrap the whole thing up with Anakin's redemption
Anyone else remember the last season the Mario/Zelda show was on, they replaced Lou Albano and... the Luigi guy with a pair of random teenage "dudes"? I don't think the animated episodes were new, just the framing device. It was definitely a cheap ploy to cash in on the success of Bill and Ted (and maybe even Wayne and Garth). I recall it was one black kid and one white kid.
am i imagining this? was this local to Philadelphia maybe?
you watched it every day after school? what was it like to live in a temporal vortex where every day was friday? did you age 7 times faster than normal?
i'm just kiddin ya, but the Zelda cartoon was only on Friday afternoons, in place of the Mario cartoons (they had the same live-action framing device)
addendum... that should be 2 of the local game stores, not "all" of them. one of them is where a lot of CS majors work during college (a few have stayed on instead of moving into the indussty) the other is an EB where i've gotten into some good discussions with the staff
Remember that its a job for them, and unlike most buyers, who are there because they are interested in videogames, employees aren't. maybe the managers and owners aren't, but the employees at all of the local game stores near me are pretty hardcore guys. i've overheard the staff talking about mod-chips and importing japanese games and things like that, and typically they're pretty willing to talk (at length) to any interested customers. and to "prove" their honesty, i've seen them actually tell customers not to buy a certain (new) game due to suckage, so i know they're not just pushing whatever the boss wants them to sell that week
the trademark is for Mickey Mouse, not just the modern version. i'm pretty sure that an image's natural evolution is covered under trademark law, otherwise, corporate logos and characters would fall into public domain the instant a single dot of color or arrangement of elements was changed.
The early Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd shorts are now in the public domain, along with some Popeye and Betty Boop cartoons. You could buy them on cheap VHS tapes in the 90's. But the character's themselves are not in PD obviously (or we'd see them everywhere unlicensed)
actually, he wasn't that much of a businessman, his brother Roy was the financial planner of the company. Walt would go to Roy alot and ask how to pay for his latest extravagent idea (ie: Pirates of the Caribean). Walt's philosophy was that it didn't matter how much it cost, if it was done well, people would come, and it would be profitable, something that the current pointy head beancounters running the company should take to heart. (this didn't always work of course, Sleeping Beauty was a box office failure, but overall it was a winning strategy)
thank you!
case in point

bah
pretenders to the throne that is LEGO
hell yeah!

apparently a lot of independant and underground filmmakers were huge fans of the things in the 90's

i like how you got mod'd both insightfull and funny, with both being equally true

thank you! down below i posted a comment asking if anyone else remembers this. now i know i'm not crazy, well... not that way at least

yeah, i just got the WSUS migration notice on the SUS control panel, i'll probably do that next week
SUS does its job, but i'm hoping for alot more control over patch management, its a very inelegant solution.

hey Centauri! funny little fact, Durga is one of the voices in Howl's Moving Castle (one of the seamstresses)
cool huh? i'm thinking of going to see it in the theatre just so i can say "i know one of the voices in this movie!"

holy crap! dude, slow down and think about what you're trying to say before you type it.
i think you're talking about 'Gargoyles', but i'm having a lot of trouble decoding your typos, misspellings, and general stupidity.
