Ahh well I design websites for pop and rock acts - they love websites that explode all over the screen, etc ;) To be honest, I was dead against flash when I first started in this job, but now I quite enjoy the challange that is flash! :) ie: www.rowetta.com

Oh I'm not denying that for a second, I use illustrator 90% more, but, like I said the tracing function of freehand is second to none - hopefully someone at adobe will have the same thought...

I hope it's not the end of Freehand, it's far better for tracing bitmaps to vectors than illustrator... Still, flash 8 is fun, just got to wait for everyone to update their bloody plugins before I can start rolling out with it!

No as a strict rule, it isn't :) Besides, what with the new SACD format, engineers and mastering setups will have more bitsdepth to let those low end freq's devour! Still, who are we kidding, if we could afford this shit I wouldn't be wasting time at work :)

Hmm, I always personally thought that having a fixed DAC clock of 48Khz was a bad idea for such pro-sumer markets tho, the average enthusiast will only want to work at 44khz (or maybe 96Khz if they get all excited one day) so that they can avoid having to re-sample their material. IIRC, the ASIO dirvers for the Audigy were locked at 48Khz :(

  13. Re:Creative Left Out on Creative's X-Fi Audio Chip Reviewed · · Score: 1

And the irony is that Creative cards aren't even considered by even Pro-sumer in the sound card market - mainly due to the fact that they used to lock their sample rate at 48Khz due to the ESS audio chipset the Audigy's ran off. (meaning that if you wanted to work in any other samplerate (eg: 44.1khz, which Audio CD's are sampled at) the card had to downsample to it - not good).

  14. Re:Development software.. on 30 Day PSP Coding Contest · · Score: 2, Informative

There is already a strong 'homebrew' scene for the PSP which has churned out plenty of emulators from SNES to the mighty Amiga 500(!), all of these using exploits and haxies found on the version 1.0 and version 1.50 firmware (hence the recent kerfuffle over the 1.5 downgrade) IMHO, Sony are very unlikley to release the SDK to the public (at a resonable price) anytime soon, therefore practically all the entries are likley to be of equal running - still, the Doom and Quake ports are very impressive! I'm eager to see the results of this compo!

  15. Re:Firmwares for game systems?? on PSP 2.0 Update Finally Released · · Score: 1

    I disagree entireley!

The spread of high speed internet and wireless has allowed this to happen - the reason manufacturers haven't rolled out firmware like this before is because the infrastructure simply wasn't there.

Sony are adding features as much as they are fixing bugs!

And once again nerfs current Homebrew / copy protection workarounds Forced firmware updates (which all new games will feature) are a very inteligent way of ensuring their copy protection remains in effect - are people considering such a system for the next Video Standard (HD-DVD / whatever is flavour of the week), everytime you buy / rent a movie it updates the firmware on your player? btw: my Import JAP PSP is still running 1.00 and is proud of the matter (RIN Rocks!)

I hold one of those much admired positions within my small workplace, that of the "guy know knows what a computer is". As a result I look after our server, all the desktops, database application, etc, etc - even tho I have only a rough working knowledge in the field (I'm actually a multimedia designer!) During a weekend RAID-5 upgrade (from the single 200mb HDD with no redundancy / backup (you can see where this is going, can't you)) I was informed there were errors on the disk, so I naturally ran chkdsk to sort them out. Chkdsk did sort them out, and I was able to copy accross the old drive data to the new raid array. It wasn't until the next monday in the office when I (and to an extent, everyone else in the company) realised that the chkdisk had neferd _everything_ on the data partition - 4 months of un-backed up accounts, contact databases, artwork, pretty much everything were left with massive holes. I rang ontrack, the guy at the other end of the phone felt sorry for me. morale: backup, please.
