NPR is talking about these concepts right now.
I guess they have already found a way to match my radio with my web surfing. That's fine with if this means I can avoid hearing boy bands and global warming stories
I wonder what I will hear if I surf to thewhitehouse.gov?
Someone should just say, "This is another way of organizing the world's data."
Someone else should say, "of course not everyone will know how to use it, not everyone knows how to really use Google for a regular web search."
Someone else should say, "Seems like a type of Blogger for a specific purpose or a message board without the option to reply."
And finally someone else should say, "http://base.google.com/base/items?oid=15819617200 159561368/ that is the worst looking Chicken Tikka Masala I have ever seen."
To which everyone will reply "how many Chicken Tikka Masala have you ever seen and what is a Chicken Tikka Masala??"
I noticed this the other day. Blogger was running a little sluggish over my internet connection. One of the messages at the bottom was something about analytics-google.com. I checked it out but it gave me a Google splashed timed out message. I figured they were up to something like this when I noticed that. I figured they had already started to track movement on Blogger just because they can. I only hoped they would allow me to track it too.
Just wait until they tie it into the search history.
As a student I prefer blackboard. WebCT has the interface of some websites I made in middle school. It's user options are useless. BB is not much better but is nicer. Sighhh now I must log on to Webct for my class.
Google wants to organize the world's data in order to advertise to you threw the world's data. Their new blog search indexes all of the blogs on Google servers, eventually when I have my google home page and click on a link it won't bring me to/. It will bring me to google RSS feed of/. So google can get the add money. Their video indexes videos, so I won't go to NBC.com and see their ads I'll stay at google and see theirs. They've stored books so I'll read a book and see their ads. They will pull as much 'public domain' stuff as they can so they can show their ads. It's brilliant if you think about it.
Google wants to learn how to track information and influence. They have to constantly change their plan to do this. They released Gmail by invitation so they could map the connections on the internet in 3 degrees of Kevin Bacon style.
Once they figure out how we communicate they can patch that up with how we click ads then how we read ads and compare that to their search data to figure out how to maximize the efficiency of the information control and influence. They can then start printing books with print ads in them.
They are a sociologists dream.
It's going to be a complete messaging system. You won't need to be logged on to GIM to get your messages. I could IM while you are not logged in and it will deliever to your gmail box. Gmail will function as a mail box and Answering Machine. GIM will also be able to pullin your emails and the messages in the google groups you have joined.
