"But really, flashy graphics only hold my attention for the first couple of hours. If I'm seriously into a game, I turn the graphics WAY down for maximum performance"

Sure, but wouldn't you like to see those graphics without HAVING to turn them off to get performance. I have not bought a console game in years but I can tell you that the ability to have realism is vastly entertaining. Imagine Councilor deanna troy making out with you and you will understand why...

  3. Results of research on 50% of HDTV Owners Don't Use HD · · Score: 1

    Okay,

I have been shopping my little heart out recently for a larger sub 5k HDTV (60 to 50 inch is most reasonable for my viewing area).

A KEY concern for me is 1080p. However, most HDTVs out do not accept it. Why do I care about 1080p? The simple answer is that I really only watch movies and I want to be able to watch 1080p content and not have to change my freaking TV again.

There are VERY few TV sets that offer 1080p input... key words... 1080p input.

The most likely contender for me, right now, is an HP MD6580n. No, I do not work for freakin HP. However, I cam really close to buying a Mitsubishi or Samsung before I found that nugget.

The only drawback I see is that wobulation stuff that they do. It seems that the DLP mirrors can change state at 1/120 intervals. My eyes are not nearly fast enough to worry (I think). Wobulation does some nifty things where it lets the mirrors "fuzz" two pixels out of one mirror. Rainbow could be another worry but I seriously doubt it is a big deal with the HD4 DLP chips.

If you are talking about fashion you are either a celebrity, high school, or college student. By the time you reach my ripe old age you can still be a geek without the fashion statement. The true test of geekdom is if you really don't care about driving the wives mini-van (or letting her drive because you want to play with your high speed wireless, gps, and laptop as she drives). The true test is being so "Otaku" about something that you can pretty much zone out the rest of the world. THAT is a geek. You may also be a geek if you have trouble focusing on a conversation because you are too entranced with your naval watching/programming/building/collecting/studying you name it... Just had to get that off my chest... Not even really on topic to the parent post... sorry bud...

Mod Parent down... I lived in Japan for many years... Switches next to sockets are not common throughout Japan. Those who think the Japanese are ahead of the US at everything have never been outside of Tokyo. The people are just as hosed, if not more, as the US folks are. I can tell you that they use a lot of fluorescent lights though. But with all the neon signs perhaps it is a break even.

Don't hate me... Love me for breaking your paradigms... Now, give me one of dem nickels!

Blocking ANY ports is Evil. All you are really doing is forcing folks to obscure and hide making the situation worse. Keep all ports open. Work on this issue at a higher layer. The more you block ports the harder it is to track down the evil doers as they move to unblocked ports.
