Perhaps some more research should go into the recent mysterious crashes that have happened in the last few years. If a cell phone was in use and the airplane went down, there could be a bigtime link!
As an 18 year old, this sounds like it'd be fun for a month (but not much more). Life always demands a change, and this could be a small vacation. I can imagine all of the fun parties, walking/running/biking, and just sitting around with friends and play cards, knowing that you're not missing anything.
Of course, the parent who puts his child in front of the TV would feel differently
It's funny that this came up today... just yesterday, I played a pinball machine in a video store for the first time in a few years. Won a game the second time I played it. HA! I still got it.:)
If it works half that fast I'll buy it though. I don't want to wire up through 2 stories in my house with cat5. I doubt it'll touch 14Mbps at all, but I don't care. Slow is good enough for me, I just want to print on my mommmy's computer:)
The Stop AT&T Campaign sounds very weak. Of course AT&T wants the whole internet. But so do 100,000 other companies as well. Out where I live, its Ameritech who's breaking the laws, as an example.
Big deal about AT&T, they have to compete with the other monopoly-wanabes and the market will still prevail.
This is actually true, I am amazing on their Netscape builds. I'm still using my crash-free mozilla m15 though, but my fonts SUCK. I submitted a bug report and mandrakers quickly replied, but didn't fix the problem, only changed some fonts to unaliased and now fonts like the slashdot subject headings are just REALLY small rather than enlarged and crappy
It's not about being cheap -- it's about the fact that the average ISP doesn't get DoS'd very often. A good ISP would rather spend time innovating and getting new equipment going. It's the game of life - unlimited wants and limited time and resources, we can't do it all.
I'd rather have good DSL provided (which i live too far away to get anyway!) and a small chance of a DoS than a super-secure network and shitty DSL.
Wow, this is more than funny, this is heavily insightful. I didn't think of it that way. The ISP must side with its customers, they are the ones paying the money.
To play the devil's advocate, if an ISP sees a DDoS agains one client, and the removal of that client will allow hundreds of other clients to retain access, the ISP should remove the one for the good of the many.
Bah... only temporarily until they figure everything out and have the DoS a bit more down.
I work at an ISP as well, and today there was a problem regarding the acceptable usage policy and some objectionable material.
However, I handled it quite differently. I told the user to stop breaking the policy (spamming newsgroups), but also expressed that I didn't care about what he was hosting -- I don't censor that, nor do I care.
ISPs must respect their users freedoms, and know who the real enemy is; And it's not the guy paying 40 bux a month for his ADSL connection, that's for damn sure.
AbiWord is taking enormous strides and has the best looking and easiest word processor around, and they cover SEVERAL operating systems. It's also about 2 megs, rarely crashes, and is having more and more features added, although its not totally loaded yet.
AbiWord is a great program and I recommend it for word processing in linux.
Sony Playstation 2 wins. MS and Nintendo and Sega lose.
This is kind of what NVidia does, if I am reading the article correctly. You then get GREAT competition within their own systems for the best price and quality, and just look how much marketshare NVidia has taken, (despite my GeForce still not working)... It's a great idea!

Here's a link to an Open-source Div-x contest, albeit for the Mac, but it's here: http://www.flashingyellow.com/contest.html
This is a good thing for the linux community (and every other system as well), right? After all, if there is source, then it can be made to work for linux fairly easily, correct? I hope so at least!

I was at a friend's dorm at Ohio State and watched as DivX of his (Trainspotting), and i must say that it was amazing! The movie wasn't short, it was awesome quality (you don't even know you're wathcing it on a computer after a minute), sound was good enough for me not to notice, and was like 450megs! Movie was cool too, pretty crazy.

As the old adage goes, "Fuck her and chuck her". Just ask those 2 assholes who own the majority of ID Software
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) -GAIM: MicroBerto
Well then by that time it wont matter -- linux and BSD will have the majority of the marketshare!

yup. I'm going to have to pirate it though, I'd buy it if it was for *nix at least.

Oh well, it looks like its time to have our friends in Russia host the site. No big deal. We win, they lose.

And i JUST got 7.1beta. But as far as my options are concerned, I won't need to upgrade just yet... 7.1b is great though!
